Purchasing a Discounted AP

As DVC members we have the privilege to purchase Annual Passes at a discount. Today I called Member Services and asking that if I purchased the Annual Pass today but did not redeem it within one year, would it still be valid? I was told “NO” and that the voucher only good for one year and also that they don’t send you the voucher but require you to pick it up at Will Call. I then went to the on-line ticket shopping cart, looked at the Terms and Conditions and it makes no mention as to how long the voucher is good and it does have the option of Will Call, but also US Domestic Standard at $5.00, US Domestic Express at $15.00. I “think” I have purchased the discounted AP in the pass that was not redeemed within a year’s time and I know they were sent to me via the US mail.

Was I talking to the wrong advisor (although I was following the phone option to the ticket purchase request advisor)?

Can someone set me straight on this perk? Can I redeem the voucher beyond the year if it is not redeemed by then and can it be sent to me?

They are wrong. A WDW AP voucher does not have an expiration date. Disneyland does.

Just to add a bit more on the DL AP, you only can buy a discounted DL AP in person at DL.

If you don't care about the discount you can order on-line, but the voucher is has be activated in the same calendar year you purchased it.

I wish they would be consistant between the two locations.

Yes, they were wrong. That has happened to me too. (Well, the part where they told me I had to pick it up at will call. And that was supposedly a "manager":scared1: Pretty sure that wasn't a manager, as he fumbled around and ummmed and seemed like an acne faced teenager who had no idea what he was doing.) When I said it could be mailed, says so on the website, he said the website was wrong. Finally he agreed, but made out like it was some big exception he was making, and really doing me a favor, and this one time only, etc. Then I wanted to use a Disney gift card for part of the payment, and credit card for the rest. He didn't know how to do that either.
So the morale of the story is--do it on line. It is so simple and quick, and not frustrating. OR call back, and get another cast member, or call several times until you get someone who knows what they are doing!

Want to clarify that it is the voucher that is mailed, which is what I wanted. Sounds like that is what you want too. Lasts until you exchange it for an annual pass, and therefore good way to avoid future price increases.

i quit calling MS on Sundays. Seems like whenever there has been errors or incorrect information it was on a Sunday. YMMV........Laura

I saw another thread that said they went to the ticket window with their DVC card and the voucher and got $20 discount refunded. I ordered a DL AP yesterday and am going to try this in September.

I just bought my first annual pass through Member Services and was told that they wouldn't mail anything, they just gave me a number to redeem at the concierge desk. Has anyone done this? Am I supposed to have an actual voucher or should the code they gave me suffice?
Thanks!

I've used the will call # rather than getting a voucher. That way I don't have to worry about losing it.

They don't really mail anything anymore but if you give them your email, they will email you a receipt. The receipt is your "voucher" and in actuality you don't need it (except for your own records). You should have the number but you don't even need that because when you get there they will have your full name and address in the computer and will be able to give you your passes for which the first day of your applicable year will be when you pick them up at WDW. There is no expiration date between when you buy them over the phone and when you pick them up.

They have a reduced staff and some calls get transferred to a call center. So yes you can get different answers.

I'm planning on purchasing ours this weekend- I have to do it over the phone since the bulk of it is being paid for with a Disney gift card and the other part is with a credit card.
I was going to do it online but you can't use gift card as payment online.
I hope I get someone good the first time...lol

Can anyone confirm that there is not a 3 gift card limit to pay over the phone? I have $50 gift cards so will have to use more than 3 for a discounted annual pass.

It will never cease to amaze me how incorrect the Cms on the phone can be. never.. I'm still amazed that this company allows such misinformation and terrible customer service (on the phone).

I think it is hilarious that, when you are in a room at a Disney resort, and punch the "front desk"button on your phone, you are NOT talking to someone at the front desk.. OR even at the resort!!! still amazed.

Just purchased my discounted AP thru Disney’s on line Ticket location (via the DVC Member web site) and by opting to paying $5 extra it is being mailed direct to me. Yes, one option was pick-up but we still have the mail option also.
:thumbsup2

I just did this also. It is worth $5 to me to have the plastic voucher cards in my hot little hand.

I don't believe it comes as a plastic card, just a voucher you take to ticket window to exchange. Yes, it is nice to have in your hand but it is suggested that you make a copy just in case you misplace it.

One our first day we plan to upgrade our 2 day tickets from long ago for DVC annual passes ... Can this only be done at the parks or can it be done at the resort. Also, if the family is eating breakfast can I take all our tickets, id's and membership cards over to the ticket window and get the passes or does each and every member of the party have to be there for the purchase?

You may be right if they have changed the process. I currently have plastic voucher cards that I purchased a year or 2 ago.

Just as question since we are DVC newbies - what is the advantage to having the AP voucher mailed to you versus picking it up at checkin?
:confused3

To have it in your hot little hands.....;)

Really there is no advantage. You still have to go to a ticket window or guest services either way. You have to pay to have it mailed, so it's really a disadvantage.
