I purchased three packs of new scrapbook pages for my Creative Memories albums they don't make any longer. I got the package yesterday, yes they are new in the packages. BUT.... They stink! They have a terrible smell and I cannot put them in my scrapbook. I emailed the seller telling them I would like to return them for a refund. Am I out the money to send them back?

I would review the listing details. If the stink is a pet smell or smoke smell and the seller listed the item as coming from a pet free/smoke free home you may have a case. But, if that is not listed and it states that buyer pays return shipping you are probably out of luck.

Ebay is great, but there is always a little risk involved. I have purchased items before that were not in the condition that I expected, but it didn't end up being worth the hassle to return them. (They were not big $$ purchases.)

Last time something similar came up, turned into a HUGE debate. In my opinion if the auction listing stated these were NEW, this is not what you received.

First step is to contact the seller (which you've already done). If you don't get satisfaction there I would file a "item not as described" complaint with Ebay.

If the auction didn't specifically say these were NEW, then you might be out of luck.

CAVEAT EMPTOR!

I've never had to send anything back, but I'd expect to pay the shipping unless otherwise stated by the seller. BTW, I'm a CM customer too. I can't imagine where these pages were stored that would mess them up that bad, ugghh!!! I'm sorry...I know it's hard to find out of stock pages.

It depends what the smell is (and if you could smell it before you opened the package).

If the smell is the seller's "fault" (e.g. a smoke smell), I could see asking for a refund.

If the smell is inherent to the pages themselves (especially if you couldn't smell it before you opened the package), then I don't see it as the seller's fault, and wouldn't expect a refund. If the smell was only after opening the package, I definitely wouldn't expect a refund - how would the seller even know about it?

Could it be the dye in the paper? I know I have bought packs of paper and you could smell the dye, but when left open that would air them out.

I have never ordered anything off e-bay, so I can't help you there.
