Do dogs get stomach viruses, like we do? Our 5 month old puppy, got sick, like 5 times (within about 15min.) Now she is asleep on the couch. Should we be concerned? My DD wants me to find a vet ER or should I just wait until tomorrow. She seems fine now. Anyway, anyone have any advice on what this could be? TIA

1. Did you switch food recently?

2. Was the dog outside alone? (in other words could she have eaten something gross?

3. Is she eating?

If she's still eating my non- vet opinion is she is probably ok. I would wait until tomorrow if she is still ill then head over to the vet.

I also suspect that she ate something that made her sick, she's gotten it out of her system and is now resting. Good Luck with her I know it's heatbreaking when they are sick and can't tell us what they are feeling.

just make water available and no food until tomorrow ..

Maybe she ate something in the house...which all puppies do...our dalmatian ate part of our grandsons race track ..plastic...and it took weeks to finally get rid of it upchucking ..

If your puppy is still having issues tomorrow......call the vet ...also always have a pkg of frozen chicken burger around and minute rice...in case the vet recommends that diet for a few days.....

It also depends on how big your puppy is. If it is a small puppy breed, you need to be very concerned. It is very easy for a small dog to go hypoglycemic. For small to medium size puppies, you should have something called nutri-stat on hand. It is a bunch of system boosting items that keeps puppies metabolism balanced. It comes in a tube and it a gel/paste. You put a pea to quarter size squeeze on your finger, and put on your puppies tongue. This and a little water should keep puppy ok till the morning. However, any further vomiting needs to be seen by a vet.

If the puppy seems ok today, I would not worry. One of my dogs gets sick all the time!! When she was a puppy we kept taking her to the vet, because she would throw up and then not eat for a day. Usually every couple of weeks. Now, 3 years later, we realize it's just her. Honestly I think it's anxiety, she get very anxious about things. If we are not home until later than normal etc. We just got used to it.

Our puppy is a little anxious too. I really need to work on socializing her. When someone new comes over, she pees all over the floor. Maybe she will grow out of it.

Ours never really has. We have two rat terriers, and they are night and day. The 7 pounder thinks she is a german shephard, and the 14 pounder is afraid of EVERYTHING! She rolls over for the 5 pound chihuahua next door. She is very leery of people she doesn't know and very submissive when she meets them. Once she knows them though she is fine. That said, she is the sweetest, snuggliest thing in the world, and we deal with her anxiety best we can. She was well socialized as a pup, but it is just too ingrained in her to change I guess.
