Puppy question!

Okay, so I have a 3 month old puppy named Carson. He's a really great dog for the most part, but I can't seem to teach him to "come." I'll call his name, pat my laps, hold his toys out for him, but he just stands and stares at me like I'm stupid! Such a stubborn dog.

Anyway, really random, but does any one have any helpful hints?

Hmm... what you are doing is how we trained our dog. One thing you could try is tell him to come then hold out some sort of treat. But keep doing what you are doing too so your dog doesn't think come means food.

Use treats instead of toys. That's more of an incentive for the puppy than just a toy.

Yeah use treats and then when he gets better take the treat away and he'll come... we took our last new puppy to training classes and thats what we were taught to do!

Also try and create a certain phrase or song that will make him come, with our youngest dog my Dad sings to her and she'll dance around and come to him immediately, and the younger they are the easier it is to train them :)

Food, food, food.
Puppies love food more than anything in the whole world.
Use little pieces of his dog food to get him to come, do it a lot and eventually he'll learn.

Also try and keep pieces of food on you all the time, so when he comes you're ready to reward him.

Oh, and can you post pics? I'd love to see him.

A few months after we got our puppy, we sent him back to the place where we got him, to take training lessons. They taught him how to sit, stay, and come. I also wanted him to learn how to lie down, but they "can't" teach him that for whatever reason. So, I taught him to lie down, I know it's different then to come, but what I did was tell him to sit, then put a treat under my hand, on the floor and kept saying "down" or "lay down" and he'd get on his belly to try to get the treat. Eventually, he put the words and laying down together, and got it. For "come" your dog's got to know his name, haha. Just bribe him with a treat, come is one of the easiest commands

Thank you all so much :D

I just bought him a lot more treats so I'll try that instead of toys.

& MickeyisBeast (Sara, I believe?) thanks for the laying down tips as well, I've been working on that as well.

He's so good at sitting & going in his kennel, so he just needs to catch up on a few other commands :)

& Here is a few pictures of him :) He's a little bigger now, but he's still just as cute!

You're welcome! And yep, I'm Sara (:
Aww, he is adorable, too cute

he's adorable!<3 I loove puppies! We use/used treats for training our dog and it worked very well. I also suggest after he has learned the command, still give him treats for listening when you can, it makes them want to listen(:
