So I think that death penalty thread is fascinating in that most people seem to support death penalty for child rapists or sexual offenders.

I honestly can't imagine a crime more loathsome that a sexual one and I have a close family member who is a victim of a rape.

Would anyone here support violent sex offenders being castrated given the preponderance of evidence seems to support that sex offenders cannot be rehabilitated?

And what of the 18 y/o that has sex with his 16 y/o significant other? They are listed as sex offenders. Is it right to brand them for the rest of their life for doing what most young people do?

Well, I can say that if that 18 Y/O has sex w/ my 16 Y/O daughter I might castrate him myself.

I'm talking about violent sex offenders.

For rapist (not the teens) they should be in jail for the rest of their lives (ie no parole). No need to castrate them it they cannot do the crime again.

Rape is a crime of power, rather than sex. Castration might keep a rapist from using his ***** as a weapon, but it isn't going to stop the violence.

To me castration cannot be un-done. And in light of so many reversals of convictions based on DNA evidence it might be considered cruel and unusual.

What about John Karr? If it weren't for DNA he might've been castrated under these circumstances. Albeit he's a nut, he's still a innocent nut of raping/killing a child.

The judicial system won't even convict based on only the "preponderance of the evidence." Why should it castrate someone based on that theory? I think there would need to be a lot more evidence that offenders cannot be rehabilitated, and it would need be proven to apply to a heck of a lot more people before I would consider it.

So add in DNA evidence that shows the rapist is guilty.

All DNA shows is that two people had intimate sexual contact. It cannot prove consent to a sexual act- except where a person cannot legally give consent to such an act- i.e. a minor or mentally disabled person.

i would not be opposed to it for raping minors. and for noodle knitter, when they castrate bulls and stallions, they do become more docile.

I guess the person would have to qualify in the "monster" category for it to apply. And unfortunately that leaves too broad a legal corridor open for some folks.

I just don't think our current legal sysem could accurately describe which offenders need to be snipped and which don't.

I agree. Just because he may not be able to penetrate doesn't mean he still won't molest.

Since it's likely more mental than physical, I don't see any point in it.

We just need to be able to correct the problems in the brain, but that's a totally different sci-fi movie.

True. Would I count on this for a violent offender? No. There is more at work than hormones with human violence.

but it is a good start. and i havent heard any better ideas. and life without parole is too good for those people.

This is very subjective. I had several college professors who completely diasgree. I also disagree, in many cases.

Like what cases or circumstances? I've never seen nor heard of a case of rape that wasn't about getting someone to do what they don't want to do. It sounds like a professor attempting to get published, frankly.

Of course this is merely my opinion.

In my opinion death and castration are to good for rapists...they should be put in prision for life with a scarlet A on them to let the rest of the prisioners have at them.

Paedophiles and sex offenders cannot be rehabilitated as their actions aren't made through choice, it's obviously something they cannot change. Take paedophilia for example. It's not like smoking or drinking alcohol, there isn't something in the likes of you and me that makes us think "go on, I'll try it just the once". These people are sick and will remain sick for the rest of their lives. Put them on their knees and put a bullet in the back of the head.
