Pumpkins!

When do you buy your pumpkins? I don't want to buy pumpkins too early and then they rot! I want a couple of pumpkins to leave whole, and then one more to carve. Does one last longer than the other? It seems that a carved pumpkins would rot faster. Keep in mind that I live in Louisiana...which means it's HOT! Thanks!

We go to the pumpkin patch. They are hayrides, games, applecider, andlots of crafts to buy. They usually have this the first part of Oct. Fall is such a fun time of the year.
