I thought I would try to combine my love of photography, Halloween and power tools and carve a pumpkin with a photography theme (using power tools). In the past, I've only done the traditional face with a kitchen knife for the kids. But after seeing all the incredible pumpkins on the internet carved with tons of detail, I thought I would give it a try. Turns out it is NOT as easy as it looks. I used a rotary tool (dremel) and I got the general idea across but the tool just had a mind of its own and wandered all over the place making it difficult to make any straight lines. But this is why I practiced tonight, ahead of our family carving night on Saturday.

So I present to you my first attempt at a What the Duck-O-Lantern. Oh well, better luck next year.

Better than I could have done! Pumpkin carving is harder than it looks. My problem is that I am a perfectionist when I do it, so I prefer to sit back and take pics of the wife and kids doing it. :thumbsup2 Down here in SWFL, we cannot carve yet b/c the humidity and ants destroy them in about 48 hours.

At least we get to eat my mistakes. Now we can have pumpkin bread on Halloween.

you did great! I just tried one for my kids @ my son told me sponge bob it was a princess but from a kit and had no eyes in lol

It looks awesome. This was my first year attempting a carving other than silly, scary faces. It is a lot harder than it looks.
