Has anyone been? Is this age group too old for a party there do you think?

I think they are too old. My son loved these places at 4/5/6/ but even at 7 or 8 he went to a party of a younger neighbor and was bored. They were not big enough for 9/10 year olds. My DS is 9 and wants to either do indoor flag football, bowling, skating or an amusement center (laser tag, bumper cars, arcade) this yr. The sports parties for soccer, flag football or basketball seem really popular at this age.

We've been to Pump It Up on the West Coast for parties for that age group and the kids have a ball. The parties were for boys and they had lots of fun.

Oh we've been to places with those small inflatables, but the ones around here are big enough for adults. I actually take my DD (18 mos) to a place and all of us adults go on them too. DS likes them (immature, PDD), but I wasn't sure about the classmates. My son isn't into sports but I did contemplate laser tag. The problem is, we also have a lot of younger kids too, so they wouldn't be able to participate so I'm trying to think of something where all ages can participate.

My ds10 would enjoy it with his friends, provided there were no little kids there. Our local one only allows same-age kids at parties, so that no one would get hurt. I myself would be terrified to participate if ds and his friends were let loose in one! :scared1:

Well the place I'm looking at has smaller ones for smaller kids and larger ones for adults/older kids, but all in the same room. There are about 10 total in the room. It's a huge place. I'm still undecided though. DS says yeah and I guess he's the only one that matters. Last year I was undecided on the Chuck E Cheese party for 9 year olds and everyone came and loved it.

I would think they are on the older end of it.I know by us we have BOUNCE U., and though adults can go on the stuff they are geared to the under 9 set.

We also have Bounce U. here and my DS9 loves it there. They have the boxing thing with the big gloves, and a bunch of other stuff.

Is it the franchise called PUMP IT UP? We have one locally. We have never been to a party there but dd & I went for a "tour" once. (the place was technically closed but the woman working opened up to show us around). The place is pretty big and can certainly accomodate kids in that age range. My dd will be turning 10 in January and she is considering having some friends there. The woman working said that it is a big draw for the kids from the local college too.

If you haven't been inside you may want to check it out first. I *think* they also let the adults bounce around...??

We do have Pump It Up which was my first thought (and when you say Pump It Up, most people know what you are talking about hence my OP), but since we have toddlers coming too I wanted to go with the place we've been to that has enough for both age ranges in one huge room. It's a little less expensive than Pump It Up for the additional children. www.bouncersandslydos.com (in case anyone is local). I just called them a little while ago to ask about age ranges for their parties and she did say they get a lot of 10 year old parties there. I guess I'll book and we'll see. His bday isn't until Jan. Either they come or they don't ;)

We have a Pump It Up here and have been several times for birthday parties. We had my son's 5yr old party there. Just went for a 3yr and 6yr party. My feeling is that 7-8 is about the oldest that would enjoy it without getting too bored. There are other things available for the older boys (blazer tag, race tracks, glow golf and arcades, etc). IMO, 9 is too old.

We just went to Pump It Up last month for my cousin's 8 year old twins. Everyone had a ball! From the 5 year olds up to the teens. Even the adults joined in and were on the slides and battling each other in the boxing (oversize gloves, lol). They'll have a lot of fun.

The last party we went to there the dads had as much fun as the kids. 9/10 is not too old for Pump it Up.

I think 10 is too old for pump it up. My son has been to several birthday parties there. He is now 7 and was just invited to another one and isn't thrilled. But that could be because of our history.

The last time we were there (last January) my son and several other boys were climbing up one of the big inflatables. One of the boys below him grabbed his shirt and pulled at him. My son lost his grip and fell about 15 ft and landed flat on his back. He didn't move. We ended up spending the evening in the hospital emergency room while we was on a stretcher in a neck brace. It turned out he was OK. In retrospect I think it was a combination of the shock of falling and he got the air knocked out of him. But boy was that scary.

He has decided to go to his friend's party but he told me he isn't climbing anything this time.

For girls I'd say probably too old- my eldest daughter is 11 on thursday and her cousin is having a indoor play (ball pit, trampolines, tunnels, big winding slides, climbing frames etc etc) next weekend and she's happier to go as the camera-woman, the one she went to before that (also family- she's oldest cousin by 5 years then there's 9 others in under 5 years) and although she went in she was very, very adament we didn't tell her friends she'd been to one, she's not normally a kid who worries about what others think either.

Boys I think you can stretch it out a little longer and it also depends on the nature of your sons social group, some of the "cooler" kids might take pleasure in picking on someone for having a party they consider a younger kid thing but then other boys that age won't.

I've found 9, 10 and 11 to be the most difficult to arrange birthdays personally as 12 and after there seems a very definite idea of what is ok, under 8 it's fairly obvious too but those middle years are awkward.

Also I think it depends on what % of guests are family vs friends- we had a huge bouncy castle hired for my uncles 65th birthday the other year and everyone had a blast from my then 2 & 3 year olds right up to my mid-fifties father! (I had to sit out being pg... sigh  )

I don't know - All of the 10 year old's I know would be embarrased to have a party there. I guess it just depends on the kid? My 5 yr old, 3 yr old, and 2 yr old LOVE the place though LOL. I think I'd either buy a trampoline with a net and have a home party for a 10 yr old OR do something like a skate park or something?

Pump It Up would be great for kids 9-10. They have HUGE inflatables for that age - the ones for the little kids are even fun for adults. We had inflatable night at our church a couple of weeks ago and had 2 inflatables that were not even close to the size of the ones at Pump It Up. Even the teenage kids were having fun playing on them.

His birthday is January and we live in the Northeast ;) He will be 10, the majority of the kids in his class are 9.

I'm somewhat offended about the "embarrased" part, but yeah I know, I asked for opinions. As I stated, my son is immature for his age (he is on the autism spectrum). He lacks the motor skills for a skate park party and other sports type parties. He's actually going roller skating with his dad today for an autism event, but I think he's going to be playing video games instead of skating!

We are having a halloween party at our house in a couple of weeks though, so I think I will probably ask about it then.

Thanks for the replies everyone :)

I don't think the kids are too old at 9 and 10. I had a backyard bar b q this summer and rented a gigantic moonbounce castle. I was thinking of it gearing more towards the preschool age kids that were there but to my surprise all of my neighbors ages 10,11,12 all got in and had a blast! I would say there were about 12 kids that were age 10 and up and they were NOT embarrassed in the least to be in the moombounce. They had a great time!!!
We had to take turns between the older kids and the younger kids so no one would get hurt though.
