I know there are a few TN people here - and other campers will always have an opinion. . .

We're pulling our 28' 5th wheel to Elkmont in two weeks. We have reservations in Chattanooga for the first night and will arrive at Elkmont on a Sunday.

I'm taking opinions on the best/least stressful way to get from Chattanooga to Elkmont. Now, keep in mind, we are not real crazy about handling hairpin curves!

I've thought about coming through Maryville and Townsend, but not sure what the road is like from Townsend to Elkmont. It doesn't look good on the map!

Thanks guys!

we've been there a few times but, i can't remember. i don't think it is that bad from what i remember.

the one place i would drive through in a camper again, is the rockies. that just wasn't cool. in a car isn't so bad. but, never in a camper again. :)

IMO, the road from Townsend to Elkmont is probably less stressful than the traffic down the parkway thru PF and Gatlinburg.

BUT, I haven't taken that road with the RV...just the car. Hopefully someone will come along that has.

I live about two hours from Elkmont and have driven Little River Rd. many times. Honestly...it's not good either way. There are many curves, but the worst part of it all are the rock ledges that hang out over the road (claimed many a camper roof). Plus most curves are blind which means you really need to stay within the (not too wide) lanes.

IMHO, for towing an RV, I would prefer going in through Gatlinburg vs. Townsend. Sure you will go through more traffic, but the curves don't seem to be near as bad.

This is exactly what I was afraid of!:scared1:

I know that it's doable...too many TT's and 5th Wheels in the campground to say otherwise. My father however refuses to tow his small TT down the road. Having said that, it really wouldn't bother me, just slow and easy and you should be fine.
