Pulling out the Sword in the Stone?

I thought that the Sword in the Stone ceremony had been discontinued. Did they bring it back? I have read a few posts that indicate that some DISers' kids have pulled the sword out (within the last few months). Does anyone know?

As far as I'm aware, they are still doing it. The last time it happened was during the "From Marceline to Magic" tour before rope drop. It appears to depend on whether or not they have a cast member working it, but there is no formal ceremony. If the CM is working, whoever pulls the sword out might receive a certificate or sticker (I believe the boy I saw pull it out get a certificate; I could be wrong though).

happened with our son a few trips ago. The ceremony was not conducted at that time. He was tugging on the sword as I took a few pictures. There were several other kids doing the same thing (and a few adults). During his time, the sword came out.

He received a certificate naming him prince of the realm - or something similar. The CM told him it came out because he believed in magic. It was good timing for us. Our daughter had just been to BBB and we were doing some rides and pictures before going to CRT. In a time when one child was getting a lot of attention, a CM brightened the day of the other child.

1- Ceremony is gone.
2- Nope.
3- Yes.
4- At certain times (exactly when is unknown to guests,) the sword may be loosened from its trap by young guests.

My DS21 was picked to do the ceremony when he was 7 or 8. He still talks about it and has his certificate on his wall. Great memory.

The ceremony you are thinking of included Merlin. That ceremony has gone away, but random kids are still able to pull the sword out.

I have pictures going back 12 years of our boys trying to remove the sword. I've never seen it done & didn't know it could be. Sounds cool. I wish one of them had done it.

It is just competently random now, Guest can go up and try to pull it out and if there is a CM working it, it is up to them if or when they want to release it. Just keep trying it, you may get lucky!!

These are the special moments that just bring tears to my eyes - the reason I love Disney. How wonderful for you son. With all the princess stuff going around its so refreshing to hear a brother getting to have a special moment also.

I'm so sad that they don't have the ceremony any more. It was one of the highlights of the trip we took with our grandson when he was only five. That was ten years ago!

He so wanted to be chosen to pull out the sword. We agreed to watch the ceremony, but didn't want him to be disappointed if he wasn't chosen. So, we kept telling him that he has a good chance of being chosen, but it wasn't guaranteed. Merlin could pick another child. Nope. He wasn't going to be dissuaded. He was going to be picked.

Merlin came out and started the ceremony and he chose our grandson! DGS was just as proud and happy as he could be! It was amazing. I got all teary-eyed (still do whenever I think about it). I don't know how they did it, but it seemed like they just knew DGS wanted to be chosen. Who knows? Maybe it really was magic.

In any case, I know neither of us will ever forget it. I made sure to ask the CM who was accompanying Merlin to thank him for choosing DGS. It really did mean a lot. Of course, now he's 15 and wouldn't be caught dead looking like he was enjoying himself, much less take part in a sword ceremony! LOL! Teenagers!

My DS was 4 at the time when he pulled it out just over a year ago. Shortly after he pulled it out, Peter and Wendy showed up and played with him, trying to pull it out with all their might, then invited his brother to try (couldn't do it) and then again he pulled it out to the amazement of the crowd. It was incredible to watch, and the pictures are priceless.

Peter declared that he was King of the Magic Kingdom for the day!

No certificate or anything, but it was quite the experience.

It wasn't a ceremony, but I witnessed a little boy pull it out last month on our trip. His face was priceless -- I was so excited for that lil guy! :goodvibes

I didn't stay long enough to see if he received a certificate. Sorry I can't answer that question.

Where is this located? I'm assuming in Fantasyland somewhere, but last September was our first trip and I don't remember seeing it. Sounds like fun for my 6 year old son! Thanks!

Isn't it next to the carosel (sorry can't spell that!). I remember coming out of Philharmagic and seeing the cermony when they had it ... it was a good one. Sad it is gone.

It must be a control by a CM somewhere that lets the person pulling on it to lift it a bit. A fat old lady didn't count ...:( (just teasing - I'd have probably thought I broke it!)

We were there 2 weeks ago and my 5 year old son tried it first, no luck. My 3 year old daughter tried next and it rose right up. We took pictures and I screamed my head off like a lunatic.. lol.. but nothing else happened. DH was a bit disappointed that they don't get anything but I was just happy to have the pictures and video. You can see it in this video that I made:
