Puerto Rico in talks to host permanent pavilion in Epcot by 2017.

Wait, are you a troll? Brazil is recognized as one of the most criminalized countries in the world with a murder rate of around 27 per 100,000 persons.

And are you implying that by adding a Puerto Rico Pavilion that there would be an influx of Puerto Rican criminals to the Disney parks? Or that somehow Puerto Rican people are more rowdy than Brazilians and would flock to their own Pavilion to cause a ruckus in a watered down experience of their everyday life at home? I'm so confused.

Come on....really....?! Don't twist my words around....and don't exagerate to start an argument....I was just providing my opinion of which pavillion could provide a more robust, diverse and interesting Disney type of experience.

Brazil vs Puerto Rico....

I was not saying that all Puerto Ricans are criminals or that there would be an influx of Puerto Rican criminals to Walt Disney world because they would want to go to the Disney Puerto Rico pavilion...hahahaha...come on!?

But yes I was saying that Puerto Rican people do tend to get a bit rowdy and rambunctious....just a very "spirited" group. Don't know how else to state it honestly....and that a Puerto Rico pavilion might create an atmosphere that would not be in line with the World Showcase experience from other pavilions and would certainly not provide (in my opinion) the novelty, diversity experience and value of a Brazil pavilion.

As far as the atmosphere though, I would like to point out though that when I compare the New York City Puerto Rican Day parade to the Brazillian parade - no one needs to board up their windows on 5th avenue when the Brazillian parade goes up 5th avenue.

I was just responding to the previous posters suggestion of a Brazil pavilion. Which one would provide a more interesting food, architecture and musical experience in line with the people that go to Disney.

Your reaction shows some type of inferiority complex – you automatically became defensive - just trying to be honest here....if you want to have that type of conversation....

I'm not Puerto Rican and I found that offensive. You just can't generalize a whole nationality!

I of all people enjoy an honest conversation, but I fail to see how making a watered down version of a country (or province) is somehow going to encourage the 'spirited' behavior to come out of its citizens if they come to the US to visit? Or cause the same thing to happen to transplanted folks who have become US citizens? I would also venture to say that security and overall guest behavior within the walls of Disney World would probably preclude any need to board up a window if the pavilion were to host a cultural parade. I've seen people get a little weird from time to time in the park, but nowhere near something that would result in what you're describing.

Yeah, I'm just gonna lump this guy in with the trolls. He either A. doesn't know what an inferiority complex is or B. Thinks I'm Puerto Rican, and thinks that if I were that sticking up for my home would mean I have an inferiority complex.

I'm not even Latin American, nevermind Puerto Rican...you just sound like a bigot.

Wow. With all due respect not all Puerto Ricans behaved that way..
:confused3

I'm curious, Are you Brazilian ?? Hmm..just wondering...ETA ; love all our brothers and sisters from around the world !

IMHO I don't understand your negative and pessimistic description about my people... :offtopic:

Indeed we are very high spirited people who like to share with the rest of the world our culture, history and traditions, we love to dance and celebrate life to the fullest ! And we also believe that there's a time and a place for everything.

We do our best to show our best behavior, despite having a few bad apples here and there, like everyone else in the world ! Nobody's perfect ! Thank God I'm not an OCD person ! Lol ! :lmao:

We have a record of very talented artists, from Raul Julia ( Adams Family ) to Lana Parilla ( Once upon a time show ) to Rita Moreno ( West Side Story ) my parents favorite movie , to Benicio Del Toro and many others ! We have so many beautiful things to share to the world .

People have been pretty respectful in this thread, don't ruined it please , I believe we can bring our points of view without so much bickering and drama.. And if you think that we behaved like Brazilians at the Puerto Rican parade in New York , we will have to agree to disagree ..

Respectfully,

Teacher.:goodvibes

Do you mean like the Arrendelle experience? :rotfl2:

This is first time I've ever heard anything negative about Puerto Ricans. I can't say the same for the Brazilians.

Really? The same country who is bordering on default on many municipal bonds? Highly doubtful.

If you ever needed to know why Disney waited so long to release a movie with a black lead character, or why Disney didn't put in a typically "black" country like Jamaica in the World Showcase, the fact that racist people still exist in large numbers would be your answer. As evidence in this thread. They don't see themselves as being racist, and that's the problem.

Don't know how else to state it honestly....
Honestly, you've made it pretty clear you are a bigot. It's a shame you can't see how ridiculous the broad statements sound to the rest of us.

I'm all for new additions to WP. Puerto Rico, Brazil or any of the other Caribbean or S. American countries would be great.

I am Puerto Rican (my grandparents were born there, parents born in NJ as was I) and I couldn't not comment.

First, I do my best to give people the benefit of the doubt, but come on that comment was clearly coming from a bigoted perspective. And the premise is just silly, do you really think Puerto Ricans living in the US are going to go to DW to visit a fake PR when for basically the same airfare (and probably no hotel costs since many people have lots of family in PR) they can actually go visit PR?

I know where the comment was coming from and you're generalizing based on the certain type of more urban American Puerto Ricans who can be louder and may be more likely to have fights. But you do realize that every demographic has that same type, don't you? If you actually went to PR you would probably be surprised by the number of rural, simple, church goers or *gasp* urban professionals. There is a HUGE difference between those people and the certain type of more urban American Puerto Ricans that the comment is based on.

And just to use another stereotype, do the real urban NY/Philly Italians go to the Italy pavilion and have mob style shoot outs? I don't recall any episodes of the Sopranos where someone got bumped off behind Tutto Italia.

All that said, back to the primary point of the thread, I would be stunned if PR became a pavilion. I would selfishly love it so I could get some good PR food when at DW. But when you go to PR, its not all that different from the US anymore, so other countries like possibly Brazil (or Egypt!?!) might be a better fit.

But, I'm already thinking 5 years down the road with the possible opening of Star Wars land and the PR pavilion of visiting with my family (of course after 2-3 trips in between) and how awesome of a trip that will be!

PPs make sense. PR isn't a country. I can't see Disney building a PR pavilion. I can't see PR tourism board giving Disney the $$$$ it would cost to sponsor (pay for) the pavilion.

I don't know.. Maybe time will tell and they make this happen. I never said never , I'm too optimistic to be a downer...:goodvibes

And with all due respect P.R. is a country ... :confused3

Well said !!! :thumbsup

I guess sometimes people underestimate what others can do with hard work and an positive outlook in life... I do need to laugh at all those silly comments .. Lol .

I'm not Puerto Rican and I found that offensive. You just can't generalize a whole nationality!

I can't figure out why they seem to think there are large numbers of visitors from the specific countries hanging out in the respective World Showcase countries. Are there large numbers of Norwegians hanging out in Norway? Rowdy people of Japanese descent in the Japan pavilion? Out of control Canadian lumberjacks?

It really is an odd comment.

While Puerto Rico is not a nation, it is one of several territories - places that are part of the U.S. but not a state. There are more than you think. Guam, Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, Northern Marianas Islands, and American Samoa are all now U.S. territories overseen by the US government but having their own government also.

The reason Puerto Rico is under discussion is because Brazil and other nations don't want to do this. Puerto Rico would be fantastic! Beautiful geography, unique culture and food, and a great connection with the U.S.

Also, judging an entire culture based on your perception of a few parades in one city! Seriously!? That is ridiculous! And, WHAT? Because a culture appears energetic, the workers from that culture would cause problems!? AND, the comparison is so terribly funny. Yes everyone knows the culture of Brazil is so quiet and reserved compared to the flamboyant Puerto Ricans. Anyone ever heard of Carnival? (Please read the last few sentences with sarcasm dripping like honey.)

Don't try to explain any more. It only makes it worse. Go. Just go. And search yourself. Then you can come back and apologize when you've figured it out.

The variations in culture make this world wonderful and are one of the things I love about Epcot. Any culture that has any "exuberant" elements would be a PERFECT fit for the fun atmosphere of Epcot. I would love Puerto Rico, Brazil, Greenland or Swahili Land pavilions!

Of course not! Disney noted an unusually large number of people from Arendelle there instead so of course it made sense to change it. :stir:

As for the previous post, Puerto Rico is certainly not a country. Maybe it should be but it isn't. Greenland and Swahili aren't either and I can say that this is the first time I've seen anyone ask for them.

Actually you are incorrect: "Greenland is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of Denmark, located between the Arctic and Atlantic Oceans, east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago."

You should Google. :)

And I spelled it wrong, it is actually Swaziland, (I should Google :) ) very similar to Lesotho. Both within South Africa and work closely with them, but independent in government. Rather unique arrangements. I had a friend from Lesotho many years ago. Swaziland is considered an independent kingdom.

You apparently completely missed my point: By listing some odd and little known countries/kingdoms, I was saying that it wouldn't matter what nation or territory or protectorate was included, it would be good to have other cultural additions to Epcot.
