Publix's or Walmart for Birthday Cake ?

There is no comparison - Publix makes the best cakes! I don't think they're expensive. My friend had them do her wedding cake and it was spectacular and delicious. I make/decorate cakes but I won't make my own for my own birthday and DH knows to go to Publix and only Publix. Every year - marble cake, fudge filling, mocha frosting . . . awww, why is my birthday another 4 months away!

Wow thanks to all for answering my question.
I have never had so many answers to one of my questions :lmao:
I will go to Publix. :thumbsup2
I have never been to a publix we don't have them here in CT

My Grandaughter (will be 6years old) loves sweet frosting so which so I order?
Thanks again

Question...is the publix icing/frosting like the old time bakery frosted cakes?

The difference here is this: Publix makes a two layer cake, with icing in the middle. Walmart is a flat sheet cake one layer, iced. Publix will be higher, but you get more for your money. Publix also has a higher quality icing (not as oily in my opinion)

Publix wins here
Walmart also makes a 2 layer cake...either with icing or filling(chocolate, strawberry, etc). They also have 2 varieties of icing...buttercream or whipped. I was very surprised by the quality of cakes at Walmart. Much better than the local supermarkets. And they will work with you on your theme and tastes. Very accomodating.

I suggest buttercream frosting. It is very good and sweet, but not sickeningly sweet. It's not like that frosting where you can feel the sugar crystals in your teeth - bleh! Publix knows how to make delicious buttercream frosting :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info.
I hope for a short wait for your new buddle of joy

Publix....100%!!! They have the BEST cake... and I'm not saying that just because I work there. You can look online and get all kinds of ideas. I know this cake is for your grandchild but let me tell you... their decedent desserts are TO DIE FOR!!!!! They look as good as they taste!!! :lovestruc

Publix fan every where. I do like thier cakes. But Kari hates cakes for some reason, so for her birthday a couple years ago I had to drive all the way up to Millenia Mall to get a Carvel Ice Cream cake. Take it back to disney in a newly bought cooler for our lunch at Coral reef.
I pre-ordered it so it would have a picture of flounder on it (they can do the printing on sugar paper). Which went perfectly with the little chocolate banner the resturant gave us that had "happy birthday" on it with bubbles, plus candles.

Of course all Kari would allow us to eat was the side that did not have Flounder on it. She did not want to eat Flounder so he lasted about a year inside our freezer. And of all the photo pass photos we bought, we bought the picture of us holding a half eaten cake outside the place.

Sorry that's my tale of Disney and Birthday.

You're not too far from the carvel, you could go with Ice Cream Cake!!!

Ohh yeah, publix has this new "gnaush" chocolate cake thing. Like 20$ for a four or five layer chocolate cake with special chocolate icing... it's a new speciality thing, I've only seen commercials for. Too bad my sweet tooth can't handle that much chocolate in one bite. I'd love to try it.

I LOVE Publix, but I have to be the voice of dissent -- their buttercream frosting was too rich and there was TOO much of it! I have a HUGE sweet tooth. We always get Publix for monthly birthdays at work and while I love them, I end up scraping half the frosting off. I would personally go with whip cream frosting, but really, just get whichever kind of frosting you like.

We have Publix here in GA. Love their cakes with buttercram frosting! Yum. They also make a great Red Velvet cake too for Bdays. They are always so moist. You can also have a fruit put in the layers. My BFF just had a lemon filling in hers. It was so good too!
