blue Just found a section on Publix web-site that says they will be offering delivery and mail order in some of their marketing areas starting in Sept. It states prices will be similar to what walk in customers would pay. Wouldn't this be a dream come true for a lot of us. Only problem is you will only be able to access via internet, no phone orders. HMMM. I wonder if Disney area will be one of the access areas. If anyone wants to check it out it's at www.publixdirect.com

I say we should all send feedback and request WDW as a service area.

Can't hurt! If they think they might get enough business they may include WDW.

Here is the reply I got back from Publix.

Looks like it'll be awhile for WDW if at all.

Our target delivery area is a twenty-five mile radius around our fulfillment
center to be located in Lake Mary. However shopping density and traffic
patterns will dictate our final service area. As we see every customer
suggestion valuable, I will pass your comments on to the rest of our team
for review and consideration.

Our current plans are to begin servicing the South Florida area this summer
from our new Pompano Beach facility, followed by North Atlanta in the Spring
of 2002 and the Orlando area soon thereafter. For your convenience, we will
be communicating the launch and availability of service in several ways:

The Website:
Beginning this summer, we will have the zip codes for all service areas
posted on our website.

Emails:
As we open new areas or expand our coverage, we will send emails to
everyone in that area
that has expressed an interest in the convenience of shopping online.

Media:
Press releases will also be another form of communication as well as
in-store advertisements.

Thank you for taking the time to write us!

Just wanted to say that I emailed Publix as well, telling them that I vacation in Orlando a lot (34 days this year), and always use their stores, and would be very happy to pay a small fee for this type of service.

I think that the more of us that email them and let them know we're interested, the more likely that they'll provide this service in the WDW area.

FYI!

I suspect that they would need Disney's approval to deliver groceries at WDW. I am not sure about this, but I have never seen any other fast food delivery services at Disney, e.g., Pizza Hut. Allowing such delivery would certainly decrease their profit from the resort facilities and I doubt they would want that. Just my opinion.... :)

While at Coronado Springs, this past May.
I would not have thought about Pizza until I saw a delivery guy in the lobby.

I then order PaPa Johns one night. And Pizza Hut another.

Had to go to the lobby to get it though. Less than 15 bucks for a family of 4. Two dd's that prefer pizza anyway!

I would not mind going to lobby to pick it up and I'm sure bell service could deliver groceries since it's paid for anyway.

Paul,
Publix is not fast food, it is groceries. I like shopping there on our trips "home". Faxing ahead would sure make it easier!

BuzzandWoody,

Your experience answers my question. I guess that there is no problem with outside food services delivering at WDW. Thanks for the info.

mikesmom,

I do know that Publix is a grocery chain. I didn't make it clear that I was relating it to fast food delivery by outside vendors.
