1. Has anyone visited Publix on your way from MCO to the port?

2. Is it a fairly large supermarket?

3. Any other supermakets will you recommend for a 45 minutes grocery stop?

4. Are Disney merchandise available at Publix?

I really want to go to Walmart on our way from MCO to the port but too bad there is none!

Anyone can help please?

We stopped a couple weeks ago from Orlando to WDW. It's a full size grocery store. It was late at night when we stopped and I was in a hurry, so I don't recall any WDW merchandise.

Publix is the mack daddy of supermarkets here in Florida.....afterall, their motto is "where shopping is a pleasure"...as for Disney merchandise, youre out of luck other than the pez display....

There is a supermarket across from Ron Jon's in Cocoa Beach...not sure if it is a Publix or other store but we shopped there and had no problems. No DCL merch other than maybe t-shirt 3 for $10 or something.

There is a Wal-mart on Merrit Island about 15 minutes from the Port. We stopped there after our January cruise last year. It is the one the cruise crew shop at. They even have a courtesy bus that takes the CM's shopping when they are in Port in Port Canaveral.

As an immigrant to Florida from California 13 years ago, I love Publix! Would pick it anytime over Walmart. Some interesting info about it - listed among the 100 best companies in America to work for, seventh largest supermarket chain in the US even though it is almost exclusively in Florida so far, largest supermarket chain owned by its associates (employees), and probably the fastest growing (I think they have about 300 new stores planned over the next few years). Service is great, and they go the extra step to give meaningful jobs to individuals with physical and mental challenges. (This free advertisement is totally unsolicited by Publix)

I like Publix too, but the one thing I'll never get used to there (as well as at the other FL supermarkets) is that they all sell luggage!

There is a Publix just north of the airport on Hwy 436 (4048 S. Semoran) in the Conway area of Orlando (Lake Frederica Shopping Center). There is also a Walmart at 3838 S. Semoran in the same part of town, just 5-10 minutes north of the airport (depending on traffic & stoplights). Take the north exit out of the airport & that is Hwy 436/Semoran. Couldn't be easier.

What about Winni-Dixie?
Is it a good supermaket?

Since I have no time for souvenier shopping, I really hope I can go to one with Disney Merchandise too.

There is a Super-WalMart in Titusville just up the coast from the port.

We always drive down and stay in Titusville for the night, buy all of our last minute supplies at WalMart, and drive on down to the port the next morning. It's less than a 15 minute drive, and there is a Publix along the way if you take Route 1 along the coast.

We'd like to stop at Publix on our way to the port. Can anyone please give me directions????

The Publix I know of is near Port St. John on Route 1.

Exact directions would depend upon what direction you are coming from to get to the port. Try looking at one of these maps that has Port Canaveral, FL marked with Port St. John shown just north of Port Canaveral.

As I said in my previous post, we follow Route 1 between Titusville and Port Canaveral, and the Publix was on Route 1 somewhere between the two.

I live in Orlando and drive right by the port often to go see my parents who live in Cocoa Beach. I think the most convenient Publix is the one just a few minutes past the port in Cocoa Beach. You will also pass Ron John's Surf Shop and some other places that sell souvenirs. If you don't have time to make any extra stops there is an Eckard Drug Store next to Publix that does sell Disney stuff.

From Orlando airport take 528 (the Beeline) east to the port. Go about five miles past the port (stay on 528 which turns into A1A) and Publix is on the right hand side.

A number of years ago consumer reports did a report on supermarkets. Publix rated #1 in customer satisfaction and cleaniness.

As far as luggage I have never seen any at the Publix that we shop at. I think if its a Publix which has a large number of tourists going there that may be the reason.

Coming from the airport if you take the state road 524 exit off of 528 there is a Public there. You can't see it from the Highway but it is there. Also if you are hungry when you get there go to the McDonalds across the street first. You know what happens when you go to the grocery store hungry. If you live near a Eckerd they have a few good snacks suitable for travel on sale this week. Nutter Butter,Chips Ahoy, Ritz and saltine crackers the little boxes that hold one sleeve for a $1 each. You can get a great variety for $5. Also they have Mickey fruit snacks for 1.99 and our Wal-mart has the half-pint water bottles 12 pack for 2.44. We pack them in our suit case all the time even on airplanes. We usually bring back almost all the food we take. But we continue to take it. If you are on the Wonder your first stop is Nassau and there is a pharmacy there that has just about anything for decent prices. Don't forget men's dress socks They are $10 on the boat.

currycook,
You're probably right. The grocery stores we shop at in FL are usually on 192 or near the FL Mall, so I'm sure they get a large number of tourists. It never fails to amuse me...I wonder if anyone ever actually buys the luggage ("Well, I stopped in for bottled water and snacks, but I sure could use a new garment bag too...").

Here's my canned response on where to do your grocery shopping.

BTW, the Publix on Merritt Island is brand new... it replaced an older Publix near the Target.

IMO, Publix is much nicer than Winn Dixie.

If you absolutely must go to a Super Wal-Mart, there's one on SR-520 on Merritt Island, just west of the Banana River.
