Publix or Super Target?

So this is the first trip that I am actually planning to use those kitchen appliances in the villas. We are staying at Kidani and will have a car for two days so we know we are going to shop. I considered doing Garden Grocer or WegoShop but as a bargain shopper I can not justify paying the surcharge for something I can do as good for cheaper. We have planned a tentative menu of easy meals for the week and plan to shop once.

The question is which store would you chose to shop? I know both are close to AKV. We do not have either Publix or a Super Target to choose from in VA. Does one have lower prices or more quality produce and meat? Opinions would be helpful....

It's probably 6 of one half dozen of the other. I only have experience the Publx as far as groceries go and have used them many times when visiting WDW, not the one closest to AKV but the one on S. International Dr. and have no complaints as to cleanliness or prices.

Here is a map of the various shopping option in the area.

We like the Publix on 192. It is actually a very short drive from the Animal Kingdom villas. It has been open for a while now, but is a relatively newer store.

We have always gone to the new Publix by the outlet mall but this time I am going to the new Super WalMart near the Sand Lake exit. We hit that part way through our trip in October and I have to say I was impressed.

Well, I have never been to a Publix, but I am at Super Target everyday. It is a one-stop-shop for everything. I'm from Minnesota, which is where Target Corporate Headquarters are located, so I am biased. The grocery selection and prices are great. Targets "Archer Farm" brand is REALLY good, and slightly cheaper. As a bonus, all of the Super Targets in MN have a Starbucks inside.

Super Target as it is the easiest to find and is on the way to WDW if you take the South exit out of the airport.

Just off of 417 at Orange Blossom Trail. Easy in easy out.

Publix is my vote. There is also a Winn Dixie we visit not far from DTD. I do soooo love Publix.

Super Target is cheaper and has many things that Publix just won't have. Publix is great if you're in a place that doesn't have access to a Super Target (or Super Walmart.)

depends - like the meats and fruits at publix better. so fresh stuff like publix.
they tried to get florida stuff anytime they can.

other stuff target. they have cheaper can stuff.

the one he is talking about is along US 192 - the publix and target are across the street from each other. there is a walmart pretty close too - it is at the end of US 192 on US 27 South (first traffic light on US 27). like it better than the other ones - the prices are a little cheaper and it is definitely easier to get into and out of - there is a Lowes across the street from it.

all these are about 5 miles apart - it is around 2 miles from AK to publix and target

How about Goodins? This is where we shop for about 3 years before figuring out it was almost cheaper to eat in the parks.

One more vote for Super Target. :)

For years we went to the Publix. After finding a Super Target on the drive in off 417, we were hooked. They have everything you could possible need and the prices were very reasonable.

Have fun cooking in your villa!!

Yeah, on the maps they are across the street from each other, and just around the corner from the Villas.

Actually I hope to bail on the majority of the cooking. My Mom is coming to spend some time with her grandkids and happily said, "You know if you have a kitchen, I really don't mind cooking in it." She is NOT a commando park type and fully intends to return each afternoon for a rest and to make dinner. Good for her I say! :thumbsup2 Here is thinking we will probably pay for her park ticket because of how much we are going to save in food!!!

Goodings has gone way downhill, if it is even still open. I always shop at Publix (by the outlet mall- RegencySquare) when in LBV. I have a Super Target less than a mile from me (and it is actually MY store - I wrote and they built it where I suggested - before that they kept telling me no store in my area was planned) and I don't buy a lot of groceries there. I buy lots of other stuff there and an occasional food item. Publix has a great bakery, great meat dept, excellent premade, ready to heat up or eat as is items near the deli counter.

Publix---employee owned---and one of the top grocers in the country.
I have insisted on using them since 98 and will not go anywhere else.
Sure I pay more BUT at least I know the meat I buy comes from the store and not the pre-packaged (?????meat???) that ala Walmart sells where does it come from?????
Love their produce (I'm a produce manager) -Publix is my dream job
And I'm addicted to their glazed raised doughnuts!!!
I like their in and out quick checkouts and clean stores

I like both stores, but Publix has better produce, IMO. We usually do Publix and Target. They are right across the street from each other.

Publix Deli makes great sandwiches, too. We always get a sandwich to share for dinner or lunch the day we go shopping.

We went to Super Target earlier in the week and then Publix later on thinking it would have better selection and found it about the same. and like others I liked the "One stop shopping of Target"

For some reason that Target right by AKL is NEVER busy. I've been in there on a Sat afternoon and the cashiers were desperate for someone to come to their til. I found the Publix cramped.

How long has that Target across the street from the Publix been there? We went to that Publix in '07 to get baby supplies and they did not have everything we needed, so we trekked back into Kissimmee to the Target that's on the curve of 192. Don't remember it being across the street.

Also--as you leave AK (not AKV), there is a little exit off to the right where the rest of us go left back into the resort. This exit will dump you off on 192, turn right. It is not marked at all. Totally secret little way in and out.
