We will be making a run to Publix on our upcoming trip. I have never shopped at a Publix and I have a few questions. I was wondering if I will need to sign up for a shoppers card (or whatever they call it) in order to get sale prices. Also, do they double coupons? Are there any items in particular that are really good (I have heard that they have an excellent bakery.)

Thanks :)

DH went last week and doesn't remember seeing a shoppers card though there are some other clubs but nothing that gives you sale prices (he's also checking the web site now).

It's bigger than the Winn Dixie we usually go to and he had a short list. He went to the one on 192.

You dont have to sign up for any card to get the sale prices. I dont know about the coupons. I dont clip. I use to work for Publix as a cake decorator.....cupcakes are amazing. Icebox Cheesecake is AMAZING, and the Key lime pie is AMAZING!!! Those are my three favorite. But Publix has really good baked items. Also the Deli makes really good sub sammies.....

No card. No doubling of coupons (in Orlando and I think most of FL). Their sub sandwiches are delicious and their breads. I don't really do their desserts so no idea.

I think I have a card from when we went to AZ last summer and I was going to bring it with us this summer. I have to agree that their bakery goods are yummy!

Yep, lots of people around here grab lunch at Publix from the deli. Oh, and the ad is available online, here it changes on Thursday so you can check out the BOGO sales ahead of time or while you're there.

Everything at Publix is good. We like the bakery, fried chicken, and DH likes the sushi. Not sure if the one in Orlando has a sushi chef who makes to order, but they probably still have sushi. The sliced pineapple is always delicious

We live just South of Jacksonville, north of St. Augustine. Publix doesn't have a discount card. Definitely check out the ads for the Buy one/Get one free. I really like Publix. They are another family owned company that prides itself on great customer service!

You know what else is good at Pulix...their subs. Some of the newer Publix have an area where they make fresh subs. Mmmmmm, Mmmmm, Good and reasonable.

The Publix in HH now carries a Mango Key Lime Pie, it's even more delish than their regular key lime. See if they have one!

I always buy a box of the fried chicken tenders from the deli. The kids love them (as do the adults) and they keep well in the fridge for a couple of days; a quick and easy meal or snack.

A favorite from the produce dept: bags of fresh veggies that are pre-washed and chopped...all you have to do is pop the bag in the microwave for a couple of minutes. Price is only $2. a bag. Combos include broccoli, cauliflower, combination, plus another one with snow peas and carrots.

The 7 layer dip (also in the produce dept) is yummy.

Publix also has a great selection of gallson sized Arizona Iced Tea, including the difficult to find one with Splenda and no caffeine.

Fish dept: fresh shrimp that is deveined and usally available for a very reasonable price.

Oh! I almost forgot to list:

You know the Aero bars they sell in WS England? You can buy them at the Orlando Publix for half the price. Plus a selection of other British candy (and food products). I guess they stock specifically for the tourists. Look in the international aisle, on the right side of the store as you enter.

Publix doesn't have a card and as far as I know they don't double coupons. Publix prices are a little bit higher but the stores are always very clean and they do have a lot of B1G1 sales. As a pp said their baked goods are very good and all of the Publix store brand stuff is good quality.

Thanks for all the great replies. We are looking to have some good snacks and easy meals in our villa. Sounds like Publix will have lots of great stuff for us to choose from!

They have a lot of buy one get one free items and in my opinion have very good fair prices on just about everything in the store.Other stores like Winn Dixie might have meat or other items lower than Publix but on other items are much higher,Publix just seems to have fair prices on most things. They are also one of the cleanest supermarket chains around and are usually ranked one of the best grocery stores in the country.

Publix has a great bread in the bakery - White Mountain Bread. They also sell Boars Head deli meats.
MMMMMMMmmmmmmmm

Also, you can buy one item if it's buy one get one free and it's half off. They have good salads in the produce department.

They'll also steam any seafood with different seasonings for free.

They sell a cheap coffee called Pilon that we like better than any boutique brand. Publix is the only place we can get it.

Also - they've got an above-average wine selection.

I love Publix, they dont have a card, and as far as I know they dont double coupons.

Like other posters before me, the bakery is the best, and the deli is wonderful.

The cleanest and friendliest supermarket I have ever been in.

I love their mango key lime pie. Their fruits are so much better than our regular grocery store and their pastries are hard to pass up, so don't even try. :) I almost forgot, I really enjoy their 7 grain bread too.

I work for Publix. :teeth:

No you don't need a discount card for sale prices. Sorry we don't double cupons. Our sale ads run thurs through wed. We always have some sort of bogo snack items. Most all of our store brand products are top notch. Except the boxed mac and cheese. I won't lie - it's gross. :scared: Everything else is comparable to national brands, if not better. Most stores have a very good organic selection too. Orlando stores near the parks will have things like beach towels, t-shirts, a large travel section, etc if you happen to forget to pack something.

If you have any more questions I'd be more than happy to answer them. :)

Also, you can buy one item if it's buy one get one free and it's half off. They have good salads in the produce department.

I think this is only in the Atlanta area. South Florida you have to buy both items. They don't ring half price. So make sure you ask in Orlando. Atlanta stores I think stepped it up to compete with Kroger. Atlanta also doubles coupons where I don't know of any other publix's that do.

I see that everyone has answered your questions, but I couldn't resist commenting. Publix is awesome...clean, friendly, great deals in their weekly flyers, etc... One time I even inquired about a product I was trying to locate in the store. A manager quickly arrived to help and when he realized that they didn't stock the item, he put it on thir special order list. A week later when it arrived, they called me to tell me it was in. How's that for customer service? :thumbsup2
