Public transport Strike

Hopefully those who were there recently can offer some helpful advice and share their experiences :)

And if someone should know, I would also like to know if that also effects the RER from and to Paris?

Direct from a Cast Member at DLRP:

no PEP's or RER's for the past 4 days - going on at least for another 3-7 days.

:scared1:

PEP are the purple/pink buses which serve Val D'Europe and the 4 hotels just off site.

RER is the train service that runs from Paris to Disney (the line is RER A4).

Thanks :)

just phoned VEA shuttle to check and she said it does not affect them.. so Im relieved now.. just have to find out where to go.. but I dont know the terminal yet eeeek

This is not looking good for me - we will arrive too late at CDG to catch the last VEA of the evening, and if the TGV may be affected, I'll have to book a private shuttle.

Best get emailing the shuttle companies I guess  ,

Have Disney, or the affected Hotels made any alternative arrangements to ship guests from/to DLRP?.

Got some family staying down at L'Elysee next week, and from the looks of this news there will be no 'free shuttle buses' - nor Train. Just wondering how they could get from/to DLRP/Val d'Europe without either of these options.

I would like to know that too. What if you are staying/coming from Paris directly and there is no RER.
Has anyone ever taken a Taxi from Paris to DLRP?

It is not such a drama if the busses within Disney are not running because even from Holiday Inn/Dream Castle you only need 30 minutes on foot to get to the parks. But you can not walk from Paris/CDG/Orly to DLRP. ;)

We would like to know too - we are staying at L'Elysee from tomorrow and it looks like there's a lot of cold walking ahead of us.

All right, deep breath everyone.... First, things are always subject to change, and what happened yesterday, last night, or even an hour ago may not be 'current' anymore.

There is SOME metro and TGV service, but very limited, and very busy as you can expect.

Read here for an English language report, which is at least somewhat more hopeful than earlier in the week

http://afp.google.com/article/ALeqM5hE624h4tNUx06S-07MtvnXC15fhw

The best advice that I can give is that you consult the websites of the operators directly, as information is subject to change!

For the metro system and RER trains - www.ratp.fr

For the TGV and information about Thalys and Eurostar service - www.sncf.fr

For the VEA shuttle (which is not impacted but may of course be very busy!) - http://www.vea.fr/uk/index.asp I don't know if purchasing your ticket on line in advance guarantees you a seat, but expect the shuttles to be very busy and thus you may need to wait. You may want to consider a 'private' shuttle such as RS Transport/BS Transport instead

For taxis, a 'normal' fare would run you most likely close to 100 Euros, but with traffic snarled expect that to double at a guess. I would consider contacting a shuttle service now to confirm a booking if you are going from Paris to DLRP.

AGAIN, everything is subject to change and for those of you leaving in a few days, information released today may or may not help

There is reduced metro service - estimates are about 30%. But I checked 'my' line and there is one train every 30 minutes vs usual one train every 2-3 minutes. During peak hours, that train every 2-3 minutes is packed between certain stations, so you can imagine what it is like now.

For those sightseeing in Paris, plan on walking between major sights, or consider a hop on/hop off tour service. But remember, those will be much busier as well as tourists opt for that service in place of the bus/metro/RER system

I'm sorry, but this is not quite correct. 'Past 4 days'... actually, the interruptions started end of day Tuesday. The RER lines A and B have serious reductions.

This is an excellent summary of days events

I suppose thats a matter of opinion - purely from the angle that - after all it's Disneyland - there are going to be families out that with young children who are going to find that 30 minutes a bit of a struggle, especially the return journey when it's cold, dark and you've x number of tired children......

worst case scenario, if that concerns you so much book a car via Hertz at the train station NOW, and cancel if necessary. I would assume that those will go quite quickly as well.

Coolness - I hope it's wrong - just going on what a troop on the ground is telling me. I hope all who are going soon get there safe and well and without too much (or any) delay. :wizard:

It doesn't concern me - this strike hopefully shouldn't affect me - purely because I'm staying onsite, and I've already got BS Transports booked.

I'm purely saying that - as a father of two - a 30 minutes walk can last an age when you've two tired, cold children - especially when they are too big for a pushchair etc - you can only carry one!.

Yes - hire cars are an option - but and here's the killers I think

a) The vast majority of visitors will have no idea about the strike until they get to site / hotel - or if they are 'lucky' the Airport. From the angle of the UK - I only know there is a strike going on because I read this site - if it had been an Airport strike then it would be all over the UK press / news.

b) Even if they know, I wonder how many will realise that the 'promised' free shuttle buses is potentially included in the strike. I'd never considered the shuttle buses as 'public' transport, rather that they were Disney / Hotel backed Buses ie owned or run on behalf of Disney / The Hotels.

...and hence my point is potentially it will be too late before most visitors realise they will need other options - especially in this 'modern' world where we are our own Travel Agent!.

Again, just my thoughts....

Iain

Just emailed over to the Holiday Inn asking them how they strikes will effect Disney Shuttles for next week and they replied as follows:

"We don't know very much about the strike for it is about to be negociate but it does not affect the Disneyland shuttle bus for hotels"

Hope this helps, hope it's correct as we don't really want to drive if not ness.

I believe that the Holiday Inn uses PEP busses; I may be wrong... but someone also mentioned earlier in a thread that it may be possible to walk from the offsite hotels to the Santa Fe and pick up a yellow bus there to the parks.

I don't know if this would work as the lines for the Santa Fe bus appear long at the best of times, but something to consider I suppose.

Or using a taxi between the hotel and the parks - but again, expect a long wait.
