If the chairperson fo a competition emails you to send a "volunteers needed for a 1-2 hour shift" email and doesn't hear from anyone on your team so she sends a reminder of volunteers needed one week later...Do NOT respond to her (while she's waiting to hear if her mother's doctor was successful in shocking her heart back into a normal rhythm) that your parents can't help because it takes all morning to get the girls (high school aged) ready for the competition!
Ok, what about the 9 Moms that aren't helping the girls get ready and the 17 Dads?

I understood- she is being ignored and isn't too happy about it.

I hope you mother is ok

I am so sorry. People can be so selfish sometimes. That team's parents actually WON'T help, they are making a CHOICE not to help. Reminds me of parents who chaperone school trips, but don't do anything other than stand around and chit-chat with their buddies/"clique".

I am somewhat of a similar situation, but the outcome so far this year has been better. No one else would do it, so my friend & I said we would. We're the Presidents of the middle school's Choir Boosters that both of our daughters attend. Frankly, I was dreading this year beacuse the parent turnout last year was *pitiful*.

But WOW - parents have for the most part really stepped up, donating their time, talents & money. The leadership team works really well together and nobody seems to feel overwhelmed/over-extended.

If there aren't a suitable number of working volunteers from a certain team(appropriate to the number of girls attending), I would NOT allow that particular team to compete. Think I'm kidding? Nope. If it were in my power, they wouldn't be allowed in the door. Barring *that* possibility...if they had any special requests for competition slot times, etc...oops, sorry, not gonna happen.

agnes!

I don't know what the heck you said, Ann,:confused3 but I'm good and  on your behalf ;)
Thanks, Tina.:grouphug:

Is your Mom alright??
Yes. She had congestive heart failure on Saturday, they shocked her heart yesterday, and she's going home today.:cheer2: Thanks for asking.:)

It's more than me being ignored. We hold this 3 day competition every year. Second weekend in February. The parents on this team have been a part of this club for at least 8 years. And they can't help for an hour because they have to get their high schooler ready? My 12 year old gets herself ready.
The parents on my dd's team have volunteered to help. Who's going to get them ready? Um, themselves.

I volunteer at middle school dance competitions to be a "back stage" mom, to spend all day helping with hair, costumes and makeup....I go out front before every dance and watch them, then it's backstage again. (At least I get some exercise.) However, I'm in my 5th year as a middle school choir mom (multiple kids in choir) and I have never once vounteered to be the backstage mom for choir concerts, which I think would probably be easier duty. I have no rational reason for volunteering for one but not the other.

Here's the untimate volunteer-less nightmare. Our gymanstics gym applied to host an official TAAF meet. Probably since we were new, we got the meet that was the first weekend of spring break. Even though volunteering is "mandatory" we had bought tickets to Barcelona long before the meet was announced, so we can't be there-there are several other famlies in the same boat. THEN, two of the coaches left and took half the girls with them. So the gym is going to have to staff the meet with about 1/3 of the volunteers they thought they would have.

Thanks, Tina.:grouphug:

Glad to hear your Mom is getting to go home today, that IS good news.

PS - I'm still thinking that a suitable number of parent volunteers per team should be a requirement before any team is allowed to participate. Hope your day gets better :) .

Ann, I'm so glad your Mom is doing better!!
