Public or Private?

Christineann. I was raised in Louisiana, and I always heard that Louisiana and Mississippi were 49th and 50th! Disneymoon, Plano is well known for having GREAT schools. I think it all depends on where you live. We have always done public schools for our 4. When we moved here 3 years ago we did mega research to get the best schools! All of ours are high IQ, the oldest is MENSA. Public school has not always been perfect, but overall we have had good experiences. We paid a lot more for our outdated, yucky old house (which we completely renovated) so that we could have this district. We could have gotten a new house for less$$ in a lesser distict in the area! I think a lot of people get caught up in "all public schools are bad and all private schools are good" without really checking things out for themselves!

DD went to a Catholic school for Kinder but when Mr Baby came we had to go with public. If I could, I would like to have them in Catholic school.

Fantastic isn't it? (well, there is a bit of a drug problem but that's a different story...) When my mother moved us from Baton Rouge, that is the main reason she picked this area out of the Dallas metroplex. They really offer great opportunities... and hopefully my kids will get to take advantage of that as well!

Oldest is in a private high school.
Youngest is in a public elementary and will attend the same high school oldest is in now.

Vince, Natalie, Lady M and myself, all parochial schooled, elementary and high school, all twelve years, plus pre-school for the kids (did not have that when we were kids, LOL).

My son will attend a public university in North Carolina next year.

Georgia is also a perennial bottom-dweller.

Public- I am a public school kdg. teacher We also decided to build our house a few years back in an area with a great school system.

DS, in private Lutheran school Pre-K thru 8th. Freshman year started suburban public.

DD, also private Lutheran school for pre-K and, starting kngr there as well. We'll see how far we go this time, tho.

Private for all 3, beginning with Preschool. The original plan was to keep them there through graduation, but DS will be starting high school at the local public school this year, a decision that we agonized over all year but feel it's really in his best interest. Depending on how this year goes, the other 2 may or may not follow suit when they enter 9th grade.

Now graduated (Computer Engineer), employed and living on his own.

While my mom is a public school teacher and my sister and I went to public schools until college (she went private, I stayed public), my kids are in private school. Mainly because I live in the bottom dwelling city (New Orleans) of one of those bottom dwelling states (Louisiana)!

Someday, I hope to move into a town/city with a good public school system. If not, I figure college will not be that much of a sticker shock after private school!

Oldest DS went to parochial school K-4 and then switched to public. Youngest DS has always gone to public. If I had to do it over again, oldest DS would have gone to public from the start.

My sisters and I all went to public schools. For college, I went to a private university and my sisters both went to state universities. Not in state, though.
For my kids, well, it'll depend where we are. If we're ever assigned back to this base, I won't even consider public schools.
