During my visit, a friend will be in town from the Eastern seaboard. He's going to drive up to the Paradise Pier to meet up with me and we were thinking of heading out for a couple drinks.

A couple questions. First, will he have any problem getting to the hotel since it's in the park if he isn't staying there? Is there any problem with visitors getting to the hotel?

Where should we go for a couple drinks? Is there anywhere on the park near the hotel we could walk to? Or would we be going off the park?

There are no issues getting visitors into the hotels at all. Not sure about the hotels, but I am positive the grand Californian would have a bar in it. There is also Cove Bar and Wine Country Trattoria in California Ade venture if you are going into the parks. Disneyland does not serve liquor outside of a few exceptions. My best guess for you would be to look in Downtown Disney. There are a lot of restaurants that would probably be a great place to go. On top of that, there is free parking and its walkable from the hotels

He'll be fine going into the PPH with you. Thier is a lounge in each of the Disney hotels. In DCA they serve alchohol. Also in DTD there are bars. That's probably the closest spot you will find anything like a pub. The one in House of Blues comes to mind first. Just be aware nothing is cheap, so beers for 6 bucks and drink for 10 are common.

You might want to look for happy hours. You can find some in DTD and some over at Garden Walk.

pardon my ignorance (it's my first visit) but to get to downtown Disney would we have to pay for some admittance fee for him? Is DTD Disney open after all the attractions have shut down for the night? (I feel so dumb asking some of these questions, but really, I'm just a big kid with eyes wide open.....it's all NEW to me :) )

As for cost, we're prepared for that. The last time we were able to get together somewhere, it was in New York where the cocktails were $12-15! I'd love a $6 beer :)

No, there is no fee. It's kinda of like a small open air shopping mall. There are stores and restaurants and within walking distance from PPH, maybe a five min. walk..It gets very pricey so I prefer the Gardenwalk, especially Bar Louie, they are sooo much cheaper for drinks.I've have left some of the bars in DTD around 1am or later a couple of times.

The Hearthstone lounge inside the Grand Californian is really nice! and they really know how to make good drinks (we've been there a few times) Here is a link to the official disney site, with an interactive map showing the hotels in relation to the park etc. also clickables that show you what is available in each hotel. You can see the Grand Californian is right across the street from the Paradise Pier, but I just saw for the first time there is a lounge inside the Paradise Pier called Surfside Lounge! but clicking on it I think by the description and little pic, the Hearthstone is more of a full bar. There is also a very nice lounge/bar inside the Disneyland Hotel called the lounge at Steakhouse 55. also a full bar where they really know how to mix good drinks! (and steakhouse 55 is an awesome restaurant)

As another poster mentioned, The Hearthstone Lounge in the beautiful Grand Californian is very nice, one of my favorite. But, if it's a beautiful day or evening, my DH and I always like to go to UVA Bar right in the middle of DTD Disney (and I do mean literally in the middle of the sidewalk). Here's a description:

UVA BAR
Location: Downtown Disney District Cuisine Type:Mediterranean.
With over 40 wines by the glass, a magnificent open air circular bar, tasty tapas and daily happy hours, Uva Bar is the ideal spot to have a drink and hang out. The hip metro-station architecture — inspired by the 1920's Jazz Age — provides a unique atmosphere.
Here's the link with photos of some of the lounges/bars (you need to check the box for it to include DTD's bars):

In DTD there is an ESPN Zone with a very cool sports bar!

ok the houe of blues has late night happy hours.. tortill joe's does happy hour at the normal hours. .that is it for happy hours. espn is a nice place to get a beer--but no happy hour, uva bar is in the middle of DTD, they got good drinks too! but garden walk has a nice place called mccormick ans schmicks and they have a awesome happy hour.. really inexpesnive!

other then that if you are in DCA, umm the Cove bar, behind areils grotto is nice but beware at 6pm they start a cover charge!!!!!!!

But wine country trattoria has a lounge over looking DCA, its nice and quite. went there last week with skiingfast. its nice!

The hotels are not in the parks, and in fact the PPH is the farthest from the parks. :) Your friend will have no problems at all getting to the hotel. :)

I was going to mention the ESPN Zone, they do have a good bar with a lot of drink choices, we were not thrilled with the food choices personally but they did have a lot of drink choices. Also the UVA bar in DTD is great and the Jazz Kitchen has a full as does the Rainforest Cafe.

DTD has no admittance fee and you do get free parking if you are validated. I can't remember how many hours tho, I think 5 hours of free parking in DTD with validation? But I'm not 100% sure...

There's a hotel on Harbor that has a lounge in,but the name escapes me right this moment. Will do research and get back to you. The drinks at Disney are $$$$. :scared1:

The Anaheim Plaza Hotel at 1700 S Harbor, has a lounge on property.

There's also a lounge at the......oh crud what is it......the Hotel Menage. :)
