Part 13 – 30 Days out & Tasty Christmas Eats!
So first off, apologies to all for basically disappearing for over a month. I had two out of state trips (Grand Coulee, Washington and San Antonio, Texas). Made the local papers in Grand Coulee for a meetup along with other Oregon Brothers with the Eastern and Western Washington Bearded Villains Chapters!
I’m top row, 3rd from the right.
After that I headed down to San Antonio for a conference. One of the high points was hearing a keynote from Retired General Bernie Banks and getting to talk to him afterwards
Upon my return we headed right into the beginning of Fall Term at my work and the busiest month of our year IT-wise. I have been in a whirlwind of work and family and little slivers of planning here and there. Plane tickets were purchased a couple of months ago but last week we got a curve ball. United stopped the direct flights from Southern Oregon to LAX, so our two hour flight became a 5 1/2hr pair of flights/layovers. I talked to the airline and was at least able to get us decent seats, boarding with group one and exit row for the longer leg each way. Also got $125 flight vouchers for each member of the family.
On Thursday the college I work at held their #GoPink Breast Cancer Awareness event. My MIL was diagnosed spring of 2016 and had a double mastectomy July of last year. She is a trooper and a Survivor and just finished her year-long Herceptin treatments! So I told her I would be going ALL OUT for her on the day of the event and I did!
Starting out the day – I asked Darth Vader to force choke cancer out of existence
My DS Jinx and I placed a ribbon for his Nana
Our website posted a collage from the day’s activities and I made the cut!
And here I sit this morning and we are suddenly 30 DAYS OUT!!!
So with all this mayhem my wife pointed out something to me. Each trip I fixate on something. It can be itinerary planning, Characters, shows/parades. This time it is FOOD all the way. The research online, the
YouTube vids, EVERYTHING has been about food. The last chapter was eating ‘kind of keto’ in the parks. And my DW and I do plan on following that for a chunk of our visit.
But let’s be real here, we’re visiting
Disneyland for the first time in 8 years and have never been here during the Christmas holidays. And the holidays mean goodies – lots of goodies. Which of course means carbs – lots of carbs. So we’re going to choose our battles with it. And the one thing we have going for is that EVERYTHING is peppermint, which isn’t a family favorite.
So what do we want? Well for me the hit list is (pictures mostly found on the Disneyland site & Pinterest with a couple from DFB):
Disneyland
The Firefly (Secret Menu item - if it is still there with the electrical parade gone) at the Refreshment Corner
Matterhorn Macaroon & Grilled Cheese and Tomato Bisque from the Jolly Holiday
Electri’fried Chicken Sandwich (Secret Menu item - if it is still there with the electrical parade gone) at the Carnation Café
Corn dog from the Corn Dog Truck (or Stage Door if the line is too backed up)
Dole Whip Float at the Dole Whip stand
Galactic Burger or Fries (Secret Menu item) at the Galactic Grill
Gumbo and/or Clam Chowder at the Royal Street Veranda
Pulled Pork Sandwich from the French Market
Monte Cristo from Blue Bayou (as part of our Fantasmic! Dining Package)
California Adventure
Totchos at the Coca-Cola Truck
Carne Asada Nachos at Whitewater Snacks
Hot Link Corn Dog at the Corn Dog Castle (no pic – already have one above and we all know what corn dogs look like!)
Sundried Tomato Chicken Pasta at Boardwalk Pizza & Pasta
On top of that, the rest of the family has these treats in mind:
Disneyland
Seasonal Mickey Macaroon, Salted Caramel Macaroon, Seasonal Crème Brule at the Jolly Holiday
Mozzarella Sticks (Secret Menu item – no pic, they’re just standard ones but DW loves them) and the Campfire S’mores Funnel Cake at the Stage Door Café
Fritters at the Royal Street Veranda
Beignets at the Mint Julep Bar
French Dip at the French Market
Churros, churros, churros
How’s that for a cavalcade of goodies? DW and I are going to try and balance things by having something off of the “kind of keto” menu for one entrée meal and one of the bad boys listed here for another each day. But it will be what it will be. It’s a vacation after all!
So with 30 days left what do we still have to do? We need to purchase park tickets and once we are on site we will be adding the MaxPass. We need to coordinate ground transportation from LAX to the hotel and back. Luckily we have a credit card with points that will allow us to get a private ride for that – w00t! And we still haven’t ordered a custom set of T-Shirts. We were looking at a “Seasons Grootings” design from DBN, but they sold out before we could pull the trigger. So now we need to get something and make sure it is in our hands before we leave.
I still don’t have solid itineraries for each day other than the park we will start in and our Thursday Adult Beverage Dapper Walkabout with DD who just turned 21. I think we’ll just play it by ear. I know the basic routes to take to maximize ride times and with MaxPass getting the FPs will be a breeze. I hope you all are having a grand weekend and your days are filled with Disney Magic!
