I am thinking of starting my own PTR - a place to get my Disney fix without driving my poor husband crazy! I need some help with the ins and outs of writing a trip report! Like how do you make chapters?? :confused3

someone else asked this recently and I think MEK gave an excellent answer:

A good trip report should include pictures. If you don't want to post pictures of people, that's OK, but definitely do scenery shots and detail shots.

I actually use my pictures to help me write a TR. They serve as my memory for what I've done.

Use a photohosting site such as flickr or photobucket to store your photos and then post the IMG link.

Here's the thing with trip reports. Start reading and subbing to other people's TRs now. When it comes time for you to write yours you will have a built in readership. It's frustrating to write a TR if no one is reading it. There are a group of people, myself included, you are regulars on the TR boards. I find it goes both ways - if you read mine then I'll read yours.

Catchy titles help. Post a link to your TR in your signature.

Posting chapter links help.

Hope this helps.

I have tried to follow all these guidelines so if you want to check mine out it might be a good starting point.

Once you have completed an update, click on the number for the update and it will bring that update up as an individual thread.

Copy the URL for that thread then go to the update you reserved for your chapters and use the insert link icon above.

It will bring a box up where you can paste your link.

Once you have pasted it you will see your link and a section will be highlighted. Type the title of your chapter in the highlighted section.

Hope this works. It is kind of hard to explain.

I am working on my first pre-trip report! Go for it and start your own! :thumbsup2 I recently figured out how to do the links for a table of contents in my pre-trip report.
I find it's easiest to edit my "table of contents" post by writing in what the heading of the particular post is (my most recent one is something like "final reservation made! wishes dessert party here we come!").
Then highlight the words to turn them into a hyperlink.
Above the edit/typing box click on the "insert hyperlink" icon which looks like a little globe.
It'll pop up another window and you just paste the link to your post.
Like the previous poster said you can pull up the individual post by clicking the post number.

Thanks everyone!! I have been reading a lot of the PTR and TR here and feel inspired to share mine :) I think it's a great project for a very snowy weekend in Canada!
