PTR for the planning obsessed....Updated 11/5 We're home now.

If we want to camp we could do it at Tom Sawyer island!

Yesterday I treated myself to an afternoon movie...Sex in the City.
OMG! so good...I laughed, I cried, it was better then Cats! I really did laugh out loud and really did cry. I never really saw Cats but that's the saying. I can't image seeing it if you haven't followed the series. Loved the inside jokes!

I saw it yesterday as well. I loved it. There was only one part I really didn't care for but generally thought it was awesome! :thumbsup2

Here’s the story of why I remember that McDonalds meal. At some point during the vacation my parents decided that they want to go out for a nice meal. A nice meal without me. They decided that it would be fine for an eleven year old to stay in the motel room by herself while they went out to a nice Italian dinner somewhere in the Orlando area. I wasn’t upset with the idea because my dad went out and got me McDonald’s while my mother got ready. I remember them leaving and me standing on a chair so I could turn the dead bolt. Well they had a horrible meal…the worst of the whole vacation. And for years later they told everyone how my McDonald’s Happy Meal was the better dinner of the evening. It never seemed to cross their minds that maybe it wasn’t such a great idea to leave an 11 yr old alone in a motel room. I knew enough not to open the door if someone knocked, but I look back on it and wonder what I would have done if someone had pretended that they were a policeman or motel staff. I am mortified by the story but I have to remember that it was a different time back then. It probably wasn’t anymore safe back then; but people didn’t know as much as they do today.

Probably not the McDonald’s dinning review you thought you’d get huh?

On this week long Florida vacation we went to the Magic Kingdom for 2 days, EPCOT Center for 2 days, Sea World, Busch Gardens in Tampa and the Kennedy Space Center. I think that was quite good for 1984! I was actually impressed that my parents had gotten us 4-Day Worldpassports.

And look what I still have!

While horrifying to us these days, like you said, what your parents did with leaving you in the room was probably not as bad as it seems since it was 24 years ago. What a story it makes now!

I have my 4-day World Passport from 1987!!! It looks just like yours!!!

Love the prices and in those days, the tickets never expired!!!

I miss those days...

Makes you wonder what they next 24 years will bring us!
WDW tickets only started to expire when they switched to the Magic Your Way Ticket system. Hopefully within 5 years time I can get annual passes!

I think it's so great that you have all of your things saved. :goodvibes
I used to be a sort of pack rat as a kid when it came to 'memories' stuff. I'm still going thru stuff from my parents house. I had a roll of toilet paper from 8th grade. :confused3

LOVE this pre-trip report! Liam is SO cute! and Bailey can just come live out the rest of her days with me....she looks sooooo sweet. Can't wait to read more of your PTR and TR!

Hey Peepns.....I'm baaaaaaaaack....I didn't pull a Jiminy's Girl (Heather, we miss you) and I should be around more now.....:thumbsup2

Thanks for stopping by! Miss Bailey is a very sweet dog...she lets Liam crawl all over her. Her quality of life has improved with springtime...the winter was hard on her. The seizures are still at bay...but other old age related things are creeping up on her.

I never worry about you going away for too long...you at least check in and leave notes when you're gonna be late!

According to the stamp on the MK parking pass it looks like we went there the first day of the vacation...and it looks like we made it for rope drop :thumbsup2

I haven't parked in a WDW parking lot since 1984...I will again this October...is the price still $1.00 ?:rotfl2:

Again I don't have many memories. I think my mother must have read some guide book before we went because I do remember that our touring strategy was to go LEFT. I think it was Birnbaum's guide because I read a thread here on the DIS last week about this same subject. The book said that "most" people always go right...so we should always bear Left, get in the Left line...etc. My mother claimed it worked. :confused3

Here's the castle. Does anyone NOT take a picture of it every time they go?

Here's the Indy Speedway....we didn't ride. I have never ridden it. It's in the plans for October :bitelip:
The second pictures is the best one that I have of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea. I know that I rode this! I remember that it was very cool to go under the water.

The parade that year was celebrating Donald's 50th Birthday. Looks like we watched it from the end of Main St., near City Hall.

Parking for a dollar!!?? If only!!! :lmao:

I miss 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea :(. My last memory of it is riding it with my dad in 1987 and then drinking a root beer float afterwards.

The pictures from the parade reminded me how I sent a birthday card to Donald (one that I had made). I think Disney sent me a postcard or something back -- I wonder where that is??? :confused3

If only parking was still $1! :rotfl:

Seeing all these photos from past trips, really makes me want to find mine. I asked my Dad if he could start looking through his photos and he gave me a look. I know we have a lot of them on slides, my Dad went through a big slide phase when we were little.

You send a card to Donald...WOW...your were Disney OCD even back then!

I bet that my Dad's are on slides too...and I told him so...I'm hoping he has something for me tomorrow.

Oh, you better believe it! I used to want to live at the Grand Floridian with my American Girl Samantha doll.

I might have to spend some time scanning in old pics of our past trips! You've inspired me!

I can't get over the prices - not only was parking $1, but your 4 day tickets were $36/46!! What a deal!!

I remember 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea - that is one of the few rides I remember well from our first trip.

Keep those 1984 updates coming!! :thumbsup2

PS - I can't believe your parents left you alone in the hotel!! I definitely was a different time - DH's aunt & uncle always tell a story about how they left DH's cousin alone in a hotel room when she was a baby - they put her to bed then went across the street for dinner. :scared1:

The added bonus to scanning some old pictures is that if something destroys the original prints you will have the copies digitally.

20,000 was just so different than any other attraction...I think that's why we remember it better then others.

Your baby story reminds me of that little English girl Maddie that went missing last year at a Spanish resort. Her parents did the same thing...put the kids to bed and then went to dinner next door and poof she's gone.
