Universal Studios, the theme park dedicated to the movies, has closed the one attraction for people who are really interested in the subject. I refer, of course, to the fascinating Alfred Hitchcock exhibit, including the marvelous theater presentation on the making of Psycho. Whoever closed that attraction is really worthy of the name. And how can we now get our towels and bathrobes from the Bates Motel?

If they had kept the attraction, they might have added the timely information that Anthony Perkins' widow, Berry Berenson, was among those killed on Sept. 11, on one of the planes.

That's a shame. I saw it back in '97 when I went to USF. I had hoped to eventually get back to see it again some day.

but Shrek is a great addition!!!!! It's also very sad to hear about
Anthony Perkins widow.

Any Hitchcock merchandise may still be avilable in the Universal Studios Store either in CityWalk or in the Studio itself.

I found bates motel stuff in the lucy store (on sale too !)

There are rumors that the Hitchcock post-show was left intact (except for the Vertigo staircase, which can be seen in the Shrek gift shop), and that it might be opened later as a walk-through. The Hitch post-show was the only thing that truley kept up after repeat visits.

It's funny how when things are suddenly gone, they tend to be remembered and missed as something that existed long ago. I wasn't old enough to remember the lagoon stunt show or the old PSYCHO house set, and have always wished I could've had the chance to experince those two long gone attractions. On the other hand, Kong and Hitchcock have always been around for me, yet I always seemed to pass them by. Now that they're gone, I get nostalgic and wish I could have spent more time with those attractions near the end.

Which goes to show us that while we rush from MIB to Shrek and back, we should stop and expereince some of the other, "boring" attractions, before they're gone too. They will all most likely become just memories at some point, but it's up to us to decide how faint those memories will be.

Nicely worded Kevin - you really have a way with making words paint a picture -
*sniff sniff* now I miss hitchcock & kong even more than ever !!!

I majored in Theatre in college and Hitchcock was by far my favorite director. I thoroughly enjoyed the Hitchcock show but knew it was not cross marketed to the generation Universal wanted to attract. I heard the rumor about some of the Hitchcock show still intact and wish I could see it. Is it more than a rumor? Does anyone know?

Oh, yes, I agree with SeaHag, Kevin DOES have an incredible way with words!

I too missed kong and hitchcock on this last visit. I told DH all about the water stunt show....... they used to have. I loved Kong, it was one of my favorites...... wish DH could've experienced it too. There are some rides they could do away with in my opinion....... humble as it is. AND, they really should add more of the Nick characters........ I personally think a lot more people would go....... since the kids want to see these characters that they "KNOW". My little boy aged 3 could hardly contain himself when he saw spongebob and Jimmy nuetron.......... he loved seeing them, as he watched nick everyday. He on the other hand......... had NO CLUE who woody woodpecker was........ and has referred to him since then as............ woody red poker...... which we love........ and laugh at..... A LOT!!!!!!! anyway, just my 2 cents worth!!!

They knew fans would revolt. They'll open the walkthru and make everyone happy next year.

The arm of the Statue of Liberty is half embedded in the other side of the giftshop wall (behind the map). The 3D glasses for Shrek are racked to be cleaned right across from the arm. The Merry-Go-Round is still there, but covered. The rear-projector screen behind it has been removed, and the room behind it is used as the Shrek employees break room. Pretty much all of the "Psycho" theater (Motel, shower scene and house) is intact except for the stairs up to the psycho house which someone tried to walk on and fell thru. We used to have several "Hitchcocks" lying around back there, but they have all been gathered up for storage, except for the one in the balloon basket.

If you ever want to "peek" at the remainder of the arm, just "accidentally" look through the last door on the right as you exit the Shrek gift shop.
