I loved his show "Crossing Over" and I've wanted to see him in action for years. Have you ever gone to one of his sessions? I'm interested to hear about your experience.

I was also fascinated by his show, but only so much to see and study how he did it. He's one heck of a mentalist/showman/carpet-bagger.

I never once thought he had contact with the other side. I LOVE how he narrowed down people, though. Why wouldn't his "guide" be more helpful in the beginning? :rotfl: "I'm getting a Bart or a Burt." "My aunt Beth dated an Art." "Okay, it must be you."

I would also love to hear people's stories. Wouldn't it be great if he was authentic?

I saw him in person in Kansas City. I thought he was amazing. My friend and I got tickets at the last minute for the show at Crown Center. She had just lost her mom and was not handling it well. John Edwards sought her out and gave her a message from her mom. There is no way anyone could have known what had just happened to her. If it was a trick, then he is incredibly talented.

It made my friend feel so much better. It was well worth the money we spent for the tickets.

Went to one years ago. He talks about how he is not about the money, and how he has to stay until he has passed on every message. Nope packed in like sardines, handlers keeping everyone away, and wow at the stroke of ten (the "approx" time on the ticket), I saw a handler give him the sign to stop. If he hadn't talked so much about how it wasn't about the money and set times I probably wouldn't have cared, but he was such a hypocrite. I quit watching his show the next night, haven't payed any attention since. I also thought it was funny that only people in the first four rows had relatives with a message. People responding to his messages past that were passed right over.

I do believe some people have a connection with the paranormal, but I don't believe him, or to be accurate he may have a gift but I wouldn't trust him with a phone message much less a message from the other side.

I've seen him twice and there could be no doubt that he gave some amazing readings. Whether or not they were legit, or luck, or whatever - there were lots of people in stunned silence in the audience.

For what it's worth, he seemed like a really nice man.

I first became aware of him many years ago before he was popular. My friend lost her son when he was 16. Her husband hired him to have a few sessions with the family. Years later my neighbor growing up was killed walking home late at night - he was 17. The family also had sessions with him.He brought closure as much as can be expected anyway to these two families. He was a great comfort.

I have seen him twice in a small intimate group. He is specific and goes into great detail. I am always amazed. If you get the chance - look up the recent show of Dr Oz that John was on - a few months ago at most. It was excellent.

We were at least half way back in a large auditorium, yet he found my friend. He knew that her name was Fran and that her mom had just died. He said that she had died of something to do with the pancreas. She died of pancreatic cancer. Pretty amazing.

I don't remember him talking about time limits at all. He told us how he got into the business and how he gets his messages in the form of images.

From an interview with Dr. Oz.
TV Guide Magazine: What specifically about Edward did you find so believable?
Oz: That's the exact word — he's specific. When he started [his readings] with our audience, I expected him to say things like, "I feel a white light behind you. A masculine light. Is there anyone in your family that might represent?" Well, of course! We all have someone male who died. But that's not what John did. He wasn't vague. He wasn't fuzzy. In one case he said, "Someone very near you had a loved one who died on Valentine's Day. I get the feeling they were run over by a car or a truck." At first John was saying this to one particular woman in the audience, and she kept insisting she didn't know anyone who died that way. It was really awkward. [Laughs] We must have sat there three or four minutes — which in TV time is an eternity — while John badgered this poor woman. He was so certain he was in the right part of the audience. But this woman just would not cop to it! Then all of a sudden, just to this woman's right, was this other young woman who whispered, "It's me." She was completely ashen and almost couldn't speak. It turns out, her best friend's brother was run over by a truck and killed on Valentine's Day. John had all the details absolutely right. And he didn't do this just once. He did it on our show, like, five times!

I saw him and he was amazing. I can't explain it - it's something you'd have to witness in person.

There are times I can be. . .I decided to google John Edwards after reading this thread.

I typed in his name and the first thing that popped up was about John Edwards being indicted for making payments to cover up his mistress's pregnancy. . .and I thought to myself, that's rather odd, he doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would have a mistress. . .

That's when it hit me. I had the wrong John Edwards. :rolleyes1

I'm going to go read the wikipedia entry on John Edwards the psychic and not the politician now. . .

It's these instances that make me feel that he has something. Yes, there are a lot of frauds out there. There are frauds in EVERY profession. But he doesn't just come out with "someone near to you died of cancer" or "who had problems with their stomach area". He comes out with "an older female - a mother or aunt - had problems with a pancreas" - not liver, kidney, but pancreas... not asking who but giving a fairly close relationship aspect...specifics like this are what gets me.

and I'm glad to hear that you weren't in the first few rows. That's what I was thinking on - being back too far. But there are sooo many people at these things that it just wouldn't be possible for everyone to be read even if it was a 10 hour session. He'll be in Baltimore in August. August is a pretty active month for my family - for each of 3 years in a row I had a family member pass in late July (with an August memorial service) through mid-August.

Thanks for the replies so far. Keep em coming, please.

I saw him some years back. I thought he was amazing. He kept at this man insisting that he had a sister who died and he kept saying that he didn't. John was adamant that he did indeed have a female close to him who died and was giving the initial of her name and everything. He kept saying he was seeing her as a sister. This went on for at least 15-20 minutes and to me John looked visibly annoyed, bordering on angry. Finally the guy was like "Oh yeah. My mom had a baby girl named xyz who died but she was only a few days old."

I would definitely go see him again and if I could get a reading with him, I would.

 John Edward.... not Edwards.

I had googled him earlier too and found a LOT of sites calling him, and all psychics, frauds. I read most of them and there are some good points. Then I checked out some of the videos and saw that he does give out a lot of specifics - not just nothing but fuzzy, generic, "hope somebody hits on this" bait. Very, very interesting.

My friend lost her son about 10 years ago, when he was seven. She saw John about two years after the accident. He said that he didn't know how to tell the audience what he was seeing that it was very explicit. He asked if anyone worked in the sex field, porn, etc. My friend works at a high school as a sex education teacher...lol He also saw her son as a roadrunner, which was very accurate as he had ADHD and other needs. What he said did pertain to her, all of it.
I think he also tells people what I say now, might not sink in until later.

 to your friend. I can't even imagine the hell of losing a child let alone such a young child. Did what John tell her give her some peace or closure?

Funny about the sex education teacher, though. I love his face as he's trying to delicately word something that's coming through. :rotfl2:

I can explain this phenomenon. I have a friend who is psychic and I once met Laura Day and Sonia Choquette, who are both well respected psychics and authors in their field. Sonia has a great book out called, The Psychic Pathway, for people who are interested in having fun at the possibility of developing their psychic abilities. She presents all the exercises in a fun & games, "Let's try..." way. :goodvibes

There are three different categories of psychic abilities. Some people have all three of these abilities, but the majority of people usually may just have one or two of them. Each ability is different in every person and to different degrees. Just as two people can be musically gifted, but their talent manifests in different ways.

The categories are:
Clairvoyance: where people see images, or get flashes of insights or visions. Peg said John Edward said he's images. Luke Skywalker saw an image of a city in the clouds and knew that Han & Leia were in trouble.

Clairaudience:
where people hear words, phrases, sounds or voices. Whoopi Goldberg's character in Ghost was like this, where she could hear Sam, but not see him.

Clairsentience: where people can feel the energy or feelings from another person or situation. Children & animals have this ability most readily (as they lack the power of speech or to interpret images,) as they can feel the vibes of person and can tell if he's bad or not. Most people can walk into a room where two have just been fighting (even though there may be silence,) and they can cut the air with a knife, the negative energy is so thick. :furious:  Also, most people can feel when a stranger is staring at them.

As for contacting the dead, I don't know anything about that.

As for my friend who is psychic, when she was first having her abilities tested, they would sit her across from random strangers and ask her questions about the other person. One question the tester asked was if the other person had any pets?

With one person, my friend thought she saw an image of a dinosaur, a triceratops, to be more specific. She knew that couldn't be right, so she dismissed it. She then tried a different approach: to get a sense of an animal that the person really loved. She saw a golden retriever.

She told the man that he had a dog. He immediately scoffed at her. He had never had a dog, but he did have a pet. She described the golden retriever.

He gasped and said, "That was my ex-GF's dog, I really loved that dog as though it were my own!" That fit exactly with what she tried to sense - an animal that he really loved deeply.

She tried again, since the man clearly said he did have a pet currently. She really didn't get a sense of anything warm, furry, or fuzzy. She tried to think of a bird or fish he might have. Nope, she wasn't getting any hits. :confused3

She finally gave up and told him about her image of the dinosaur - triceratops.

He exclaimed, "I have an iguana!"

They were both in snowy MA at the time, not in some tropical climate where even the thought of a lizard would have been a natural, close approximation her dinosaur image. It certainly never would have occurred to her in a million years to interpret iguana from the image she got or that people normally have one for pets.

So, it would be understandable that John Edward saw an image of sex, and went to the usual references of sex, i.e. porn. instead of sex education.

My mom and I saw him in Seattle. I can't remember the year, but it was 4 kids ago (when I only had 2 kids! :rotfl:)

It was a fairly small setting, maybe 150 people. He talked about himself for most of it, and then did maybe 4-5 readings to people in the audience. Nothing really stood out during those as being amazing or jaw dropping.

Have to say I was a fan before I saw him but not so much afterwards. Then again, same goes with Sylvia Browne, lol. Saw her with my mom and sisters and then I stopped watching her too!

I went to a John Edward show in Chicago. I was picked out and "read". He was very specific and, in my opinion, the real deal. He knew specific things, such as the fact that my FIL had the American flag draped on his casket etc.. He also knew about a miscarriage I had that my husband and I didn't share with anyone.

I believe he has a gift. I'm conflicted on how/why/what to do with that given my beliefs.
