Pseudophedrine free decongestant?

Sudafed PE

Thanks... I have never heard of it, but will see if I can find it! Pseudophedrine gives me the shakes for about 6 hours.

I'm in the same boat - can't take the stuff unless I want to sit on the sofa with my teeth chattering and my body trembling......not good to drive or work that way!

I use good old Vicks! A dab under the nose. Crushed eucalyptus leaves in a little jar to sniff, but that won't go over well at the office! ;)

Anything you buy right off the shelf now is pseudoephedrine free.

Is that why I can't buy the target/walmart brand of kid's triaminic anymore? We bought it about a yr ago but can't get it anymore. :confused3 :confused3

The Sudoped brands work good for me. There is also a Walgreens brand that is equivalent that I usually buy. I don't know why, but after years, even after they took the pseudophedrine out of it, it still works good.

the pseudophed PE has a drug in it LIKE pseudophed so it's not recommended at all if you can't take regular pseudophed. i'm not supposed to take it as it gives me the shakes as well, and it gives me an irregular heart beat with palpatations and i went to ask my pharmacist about the PE stuff and he said it will still have the same effect.

i would just try taking normal Benadryl that doesn't have anything else in it other than benadryl. that usually helps me when i'm congested.

I agree that any drug containing pseudophed/ephedrine can cause nervousness and even anxiety attacks in some people. If you ask a pharmacist, they can recommend what med to take that will curb your symptoms without the jittery side-effects. Stay away from Vicks Nyquil---it's loaded with stimulants to make you climb the walls if youre particularly sensitive to it.

sudafed makes my heart race. my doctor told me not to take any over the counter decongestant. he prescribed flonase instead.

Have any of you tried using multiple sprays of saline? I find if I "flush" myself out I reduce the pressure and it really helps me a lot.

I have to be in the bathroom over the sink cause that stuff will go in your nose and down your throat/out your mouth. There is one that is in a can "simply saline" I tried using at my desk once and nearly blew my ears out. That stuff has power.

Ever hear of a netti pot? I think that is how it is spelled. There are places in the world where irrigating the sinuses with a saline solution is very common and helpful. I prefer the sprays myself. If you do use a homemade saline solution you only need 1/2 teaspoon of table salt to 8 oz of warm water. Don't use too much salt or you can do harm.

I was just going to suggest the saline. It offers some relief.

Nasal decongestants like Afrin also work well, most come in a 12 hour formula. They keep your nose from being stuffy without any of the pseudophed side effects. Just don't use them for more than 3 to 5 days at a time or you get a rebound effect when you stop.

All decongestants have the possibility of making you jittery - for most people, pseudoephedrine is the least likely - others like phenylephrine are more likely to do it, so you should avoid ALL decongestant-containing products.

Aerius is a newer antihistamine that has some decongestant effects, without actually containing a decongestant, so it may be ideal for you. Saline nasal sprays also have some decongestant effects. Avoid medicated nasal sprays like Otrivin or Dristan if you can because your nose can get "hooked" on them, and you'll need to use more and more over time.
