PSA Reminder--Daylight Savings Time

I have mixed feelings.

I personally tend to be more in sync with what's considered a "normal" sleeping schedule when we're on on DST, but I hate changing back and forth.

Also, my DS just started a job with really early hours, and I think this might make it even more difficult for him to wake up on time.

Seem to recall a recent thread on this topic. The reality is there are more daylight hours during the Summer (Northern Hemisphere) and less in the Winter. Moving the clocks ahead or back doesn't impact the number of daylight hours which is really a function of what season it is.

Yes, we can't change nature. But, we can change the perceived timing of those daylight hours. I like DST for the 8 months that we have it, and ST for the other 4 months.

DH thinks I've lost it. Last night in my mind it was fall so we were gaining an hour. I finally realized, duh, it is spring.

I'm scheduled to fly tomorrow at 11:30a. I got an email time stamped at 10:29a today saying "It's time to check in!" (normally 24 hours before flight). I wasn't paying attention to the time, went to my Delta app and go the message "It's too early to check in."

10:29a today will be 11:29a tomorrow. Maybe Delta changed the clocks on their email notification system a day early?

I think it's more a function of airline schedules being based on Zulu time, also known as Universal Mean Time or Greenwich Mean Time.
SW does this where if you're checking in today for a flight tomorrow it is 25 clock hours when you can check in. Same issue in the fall, you can't check in until 23 clock hours before scheduled eparture.

I don’t mind the spring, it’s the fall that gets me. I hate it getting dark so early (at sunset) in cold weather.

Good thought. I didn't think of Zulu time. BUT, should all of their systems reference the same time?

Senate approved it a year ago. House did not. No interest in the House at the time in the bill. Not to get political, just a statement of fact, but a different party controls the House now, so maybe it will get some traction.

So, do you still use the time change as a reminder to change your smoke detector batteries even though you don't change your clocks?
Mine are all 10 years old, and I guess now you're supposed to replace the entire detector every 10 years. And the new one's come with a battery that lasts 10 years.

No....we change batteries on Halloween every year

I check my smoke alarm batteries New Year’s and July 4th, as the time change isn’t exactly six months anymore, more like four months on Standard when you actually count.

I don’t care which time they pick. just pick one and stick with it. I can’t stand either change and it takes me 2-3 weeks to get back to normal each time.
