Ugh.

We are looking for that game "GUITAR HERO" after my nephew got one for Christmas. ;)

According to their online site the one close to us had the first version in stock.

Ordered and PAID FOR IT online for instore pick up. Confirmation came through.

DH goes to pick it up and THEY DON'T HAVE IT. :confused3 They act like this is standard operating procedure and issue a credit.

Jerks. :headache:

SAME THING HAPPENED TO US!!

First they told us we had picked it up already - um, no, we hadn't. They have to scan your credit card for pick up and I asked for records on where we did that (knowing the credit card company could back that up). THEN they inform us they are missing 2 units and they don't have one. Offer us a unit at a store 30 minutes away plus they will give us a $24 gift card for our trouble.

For us, it was a surround sound system - no small purchase.

It took 45 minutes for them to decide to offer us another, comparable set instead for our money. After looking and looking, we took that one but got home and found a better one on their website on sale. It had free shipping at this point so I just had them ship it to us. I wasn't about to go back again for a store pick up.

We returned the 'comparable' one and called it done.

I don't think we'll mess with the store pick up there again. It was a hassle and since they offered us another system, they wouldn't even give us the $24 card you're supposed to get if you have to wait more than 24 minutes (at least I think it's 24?).

Poo on them!

One of the main reasons why this happens, incidentally, is because of theft. Circuit City actually has a pretty decent inventory system, but it cannot account for all the times someone simply walks out of the store without paying for something. So the system shows that the item is on the shelf or in the storeroom, but it's not there. They could do several things to reduce how often this happens, but that would cost money, and would only be worthwhile if they could reflect the improved service in the price, which would run counter to why folks shop at Circuit City/Best Buy/etc. instead of shopping at Cambridge Soundworks/Tweeter/etc. -- i.e., because they care more about the low price then the occasions when they have experiences such as this.

I surely would admire folks who stick to their guns and never patronize any retailer who ever wrongs them in the slightest, but what I've noticed is that the price keeps dragging people back into these stores.

Oh, I'm stubborn that way. There are a few places I'll never step foot in, and I haven't in years.

But it usually takes something pretty big to get me to that point.

Anyone remember "Crazy Eddie's?" Many years ago, I got my now Ex-BIL a calculator. (Back in the stone age when this was a semi-major purchase.)

They had such a screwy system. You selected your item on the sales floor, paid for it at a register and then you picked it up at another counter.

I did all of the above, but when I went to pick it up, they told me it was out of stock. Here's the best part, they wanted to give me a store credit since they had a "no refund" policy. :confused3 Needless to say, I got my money back.

Gotta love the stores that promote online order/in store pick up which ends up being a colossal waste of time.

Target isn't any better.. SIL ordered some gifts last week - and paid $40 EXTRA for 2 day shipping - with an iron clad promise the items would be here before Christmas..

It's the 27th now - and still no package.. They sent an email yesterday - saying it would be shipped yesterday.. When it arrives he will be disputing the extra $40 shipping charge and will NOT order from them again next Christmas..

Drives me nuts when stores don't deliver what they promise.. I ordered items from Walmart last week - paid NO extra for shipping - and everything arrived before Saturday..
