I am getting DH a PS3 for Christmas. His PS2 will celebrate its 11th birthday shortly after Christmas and has definitely seen better days. So I decided to get a replacement. I want to get him a couple of games with it, but I am really stuck. I hope that some of you experts can recommend some good PS3 games.

He loves adventure games and games that involve solving puzzles. He also loves crime mysteries and train simulation games. Some of his favourite games are Epic Mickey, Kingdom Hearts, Wallace and Gromit and the Curse of the Were-Rabbit, The Hobbit and Hotel Dusk.

I will second Heavy Rain for the crime mystery genre, it is fantastic.

I am really enjoying Skyrim at the moment, it's an open world adventure game that he will pour hundreds of hours into (if you let him lol).

If he enjoys platform/puzzle games, then he can't go wrong with Little Big Planet 2. Should be fairly cheap now as well.

Another series that is fantastic is Uncharted. Very adventure, shooter, puzzle solving based with amazing graphics that will really wow him if he is making the jump from PS2/Wii to the PS3. You can also buy Uncharted 1&2 in a bundle rather cheap as well since the 3rd game just released.

Then there is obviously Call of Duty/Modern Warfare which will probably get him into online shooters very quickly.

Also Batman Arkham Asylum if he likes puzzle solving, crime detective and to be honest, everyone likes Batman!

I tried to put a link here but the boards don't like links for some reason. Go to Argos website and you should find the deal on there, otherwise pm me your email address and I will send you a link direct to what I put below.

320GB PS3 console with Karate Kid Blu Ray, Uncharted 3, Gran Turismo 5, Battlefield 3, Fifa 12 + £10 Argos voucher for spending over £100 (available until 13th December. Total cost £259.95

Good luck and let me know if you need any more help, though I probably just gave you PS3 nerd overload

As said above Uncharted 1,2 and 3 are fantastic adventure games. The first two will be dirt cheap as well.

My favourite game of this generation has been Red Dead Redemption, like GTA but with cowboys. One of the most atmospheric games about and great fun.

Can't believe I forgot Red Dead Redemption, amazing game!

My boyfriend and I both LOVE Portal 2, maybe because we're geeks! haha, but it's all about puzzle solving by shooting portals around through different levels.

He also loves pretty much every other game mentioned already on this thread! :thumbsup2

Portal 2 is a great game, love Stephen Merchant in that too!

Do you have a lovefilm account? I recently got one and have rented tons of games from them, excellent way of trying a load of games too to try and make sure you don't get a stinker :)

:goodvibes

Mirrors Edge is one of my favourite games, its very cheap now aswell, possibly even less than £5. Its played from a first person view point, but it involves free running and leaping around buildings, with a few bits of gunplay involved, really good game.

Definitely can't go wrong with the Uncharted trilogy, brilliant set of games.

Mass Effect 2 is also a very good game. Its an mix of shooting, with RPG elements, really enjoyed that game.

The Ratchet and Clank games are quite good aswell, the 2 I have are Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time.

Resistance: Fall of Man is also a good game, aswell as Motorstorm. Both came out at PS3 release and took up a lot of my time back then. Don't think the other Motorstorms have come close to the first one, so that could be worth a look for.

Hope it helps :)

Thanks for all your input. This gives me a lot of research to do. I personally love the idea of L.A. Noire and Heavy Rain. I might even be tempted to try them myself. I also think he would love the Disney Universe one, but I have to look closer at the other options.

I have collected Amazon gift cards through various points schemes all year and will use those to get the PS3.

My fiance is a video games developer and swears that the PS3 is the best console out there!
He LOVES the Uncharted series, Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.
The Modern Warfare ones are good if he likes shooty ones, but they kill my ears! Ugh!
Deadspace 1&2 are good horror ones.
Borderlands is also good. Read Dead Redemption.
I like to play the Lego games (star Wars, Batman, Harry Potter)
If you can get the move controller, you can use that for Heavy Rain.

Its so quiet compared to other consoles!

If you have any more questions, let me know and I can ask him :) :goodvibes

Disney Universe looks a terrible game unless you're a child to be honest.
LA Noire and Heavy Rain are good but a bit flawed (Heavy Rain is basically an interactive movie and LA Noire is horribly repetitive). Still both worth a play through :)

How could I forget this!

One of the best games i've played in the past 2 years. The story is a little crazy, but the game lasts ages! I still haven't finished it yet, so much to see and do.

Highly recommend that.

I'd recommend you wait for Disney Universe, there's a demo (I think) available for PS3, might be worth giving that a go first. Personally I liked it, but it seems a bit too simple.

Again, thanks for all the input. I had a look at Heavy Rain, LA Noire and Disney Universe today. I kind of liked the look of the first two, but somehow I don't think Disney Universe will be his thing. I so wish that there was a version of Toy Story Mania for PS3. There are just too many shooting and combat games for PS3 and they are not his thing at all.

ha lol I have it was very easy even I completed all the scenes after a few plays and I struggle with most games! So I have to agree!

MY DH likes:

Skyrim
Call of Duty
LA Noire
Arkham series
Little big planets
Any of the Lego games (star wars, harry potter, indiana jones, batman)

Well, the PS3 has now arrived and I went with Little Big Planet 2 and L.A. Noire in the end.
