I'm looking for suggestions for good PS2 games. DS bought KingdomHearts & has caused some problems because it's all anyone wants to do. ;)

Seriously, I'm looking for a couple of suggestions for other good games. If they could be similar & as good as KH that would be terrific - somehow, though, I wonder if there are many more like that.

I don't know how the games are rated, but we'd be looking for something without profanit & please limit violence to the KH type. i.e. non-bloody, disintegrating "aliens"?

How about Final Fantasy X which was also done by Squaresoft. Square is planning a sequal to it for next year. The PS1 Final Fanatsy games are good too.

BTW, all games have a rating that's similar to what movies have. M = Mature, similar to an R rated movie. E=Everyone, T=Teen. You definitely want to stay away from the M rated games if you don't want violence. T rated games might have some profanity. You might want to rent them & check them out first.

One that we really enjoy is "Gauntlet" from Midway Games. It's an update of the arcade game. You play a warrior, magician, etc. The violence is similar (IMO) to Kingdom Hearts, although the story line is not nearly as involved or interesting.

The biggest "plus" to Gauntlet is that it is a multiplayer game where up to 4 people can play at the same time (not taking turns, but all at once), and since you are all working toward the same goal, players of all levels can play together. DS who just turned 6 can play along with his mom and I, and we can all have fun!

My DS and my SIL had a ball playing Harry Potter!

SIL came over to our house just to play it. She's 39 y/o by the way;)

Thanks for the suggestions! Now that you mention it, DS has talked about Final Fantasy X.

And the multi-player game is a good suggestion so the kids can play together.

Oooo - Harry Potter? I didn't know about that one! This whole thing is new to us. We haven't bought a game system since the original Nintendo!

We're kind of in a bind with this because DS bought the PS2 with his fiance & only has it every other week until the wedding in June.

Anyone else?

Um, do not let them play Final Fantasy 7, sheesh that one has printed cussing in it. JMO but I do not allow my kids to play Final Fantasy. Too much battling.
I will have to check out 10. FF11 is on preorder I think.
I agree rent them first and see if they are up to your standards.
Santa *might* be getting us PS2 & KH. So I am in the same boat as you.

Santa is bringing PS2 to our house, and also Kindgdom Hearts. The games that cause trouble in my house are racing games, my dh and ds will race for hours and never quit. They are getting Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2 (1 is their favorite ps1 game) and Gran Turismo 3. Also, Harry Potter, Chamber of Secrets and Experiment 626. Should be interesting to see which one they play first.

It has been several years since I've played it so I don't remember the cussing. The random battles do get annoying, but there's no blood or body parts splattered all over the screen. When you beat an enemy, they just disappear.

Grand Theft Auto - Vice City is a really popular one right now, but I guess it would depend on the ages of your kids. I've never seen it myself, but have heard about it. My DS (13) wants it and I need to check into it more before I make a decision about that.

Crash Bandicoot is really great. THere are 4 games available for PS1, and a new one came out last year for PS2. I dont know how the last one rates, but we are also getting PS2 for xmas and I did buy it. ( BTW my kids are 7,8 and 11)

When this one was released recently they did a review on GMA. It's all the rage because of the graphics, evidently. However, the protagonist is a drug dealer & you get points for killing innocent people - plenty of blood. It came up at dinner one night when DD was away. DS got really sheepish & his fiance' piped up with "I don't want it in our house!" Evidently, DS had bought it (he's a real computer graphics geek) - he's since given it to his friends who are both over 18.

Since our dd is only 7, we don't have too many games - seems like most of the ones they put out are violent. Keeping this in mind, I went out and got DISNEY GOLF. Our friends have it and love it. I believe it takes you minature golfing throughout the parks.

I have read many things on GTA Vice City, and it is definitely not for 13 year olds I don't think. There is a ton of violence and killing and prostitutes etc. It is rated as one of the best games this year for adults. I think it sounds just awful.

I agree, Crash is a big hit at our house on PS1.

Lovethatmouse, let us know when you try Disney Golf, I was wondering if it was a good game.

Hmmm...I had heard that Grand Theft Auto had people running from the police and that's why I was wondering about it. I didn't know about the drug dealer and prostitutes part. Thanks for the heads up! I think DS will NOT find that game with his new PS II!

elgerber - will let you know, but will have to do so until after Christmas. It is a Santa gift.

About Grand Theft Auto - My BIL has it and it is not one of my favorites. I saw him steal a cop car, go to a hooker - got a little something from her (if you know what I mean - the car was rocking), they got out of the car and he killer her by slitting her throat, took the hooker's money and hopped into the car and started mowing down people. Blood was spurting everywhere, people screaming - NOT MY IDEA OF A FUN GAME!!! Will not let this game into my home.

Monster's Inc, Crash Bandicoot, NHL 2003 (EA Sports) are some of my fav's (I mean my DSs's fav's)

Just thought of another one - SpyHunter. It has some multiplayer modes, you drive a James Bond type car that turns into a boat, motorcycle, etc, and chase bad guys. You shoot them, they blow up. You have to try not to hit civilians, and there is no blood.

There is a mode where you try to run over chickens, there's lots of clucking and feathers flying, but again, no blood.

DS really likes this one. I just bought it as a gift for someone at Target for 20 bucks.

grand theft auto is definitely not for kids
DH borrowed it from a friend and I forbid it from the house
I would not even let 7 yr dd in the room when he played it

We are getting kingdom hearts for christmas and I can't wait
dd really likes Tony Hawks skating one
You fall down and look like you get busted up but its pretty harmless from the demo I've seen
We like harry potter and monster inc is pretty good
I don't really think they make a lot of games for young kids on PS2
dd mostly plays ps games she also loves spongebob and mary kate and ashley
