Leaving in 9 days and haven't made any ps arrangements. First trip to wdw with dh and children (3 & 6) both of whom are picky eaters. Are we doomed to counter food all week or do we stand a chance at a sit down place? Also, what is the one place you would recommend a newcomer not miss?

I would say do one character meal at least. Some of the ones at a resort rather than in the park are not hard to get in with out a PS way in advance.

One of our favorites is the breakfast buffet with Admiral Goofy at the Beach Club. Minnie, Chip and Dale are there too. The food is quite good. Everytime we have been it has not been crowded so the kids have had a good time with the characters.

Have a good time:D

This site has menus to most rest. and character meals listed for each park and resort.
CoolDisney is correct that most of the resort rest. are easier to walk up and get a table at. I would suggest going earily to bfast though. Seems about 9am the crowds start to pick up. You can make PS now or even once you arrive at your hotel .
OHana's at the Polynesian has great food and great character interaction.
I have heard good things about the Trails End Buffet, and they seem reasonably price as well.
Check out the site l linked above I think it will help you. And for your peace of mind, there have even been reports of people walking up to Cindy's castle and getting tables without PS's.
Good Luck and have a great time.:)

since you are going during what is spring break for many, you need to call for PS's now. If you decide not to, there are good chices for counter service, Almost anything in WS, Peco's Bills in MK.

I do suggest a couple of character meals

Donald's breakfastosaurus in AK (Donald, Mickey, pluto. goofy)

Crystla Palace in MK ... Pooh and friends, either meal here is good.

Thank you all for your advice. I was afraid I might have to eat pizza and ckn nuggets all week, not that the kids would mind lol.

I have only been to WDW twice, but one thing I can say is that for breakfasts and dinners in the parks, you definitely need a PS. I only knew about it because of my travel agent (she booked them all) and I saw many people who were told that their wait for breakfast and/or dinner would be from 1 to 1 1/2 hours because they didn't have a PS. It's definitely not too late to call some in, and I agree that the character breakfast at the Cape May Cafe in the Beach Club Hotel is terrific (our favorite breakfast - we've eaten there both times!). This is my pick for a "don't miss."

We didn't care for Breakfastosaurus in Animal Kingdom, but the kids will love it. We try for 2 character breakfasts (one on the last day to end the vacation on a high note) and 1 character dinner (Crystal Palace, a buffet dinner, and Liberty Tree Tavern, both in Magic Kingdom, are great). All restaurants have kids' menus, so wherever you go, even the pickiest kid will find something they like!

Have a great time!:D
