Oh my gosh.......

People have been camping outside of Best Buy since Monday waiting for Friday AM to buy Playstation 3. The store manager says they are getting 26 units in...lol, there are at least 100 folks in the line already.

:headache:

Holy moly! I hope it is worth it!

The news was saying they are "preselling" on Ebay for up to $2000...let me go check that out... :surfweb:

Sure enough...$2125 for one...auction ends in 1 minute...geesh. This is worse than the Elmo's, Ferbies, Beanie Babies, and the Cabbage Patch Kids.

Hmmm the less units they deliver on the release date, the more publicity they get...

Sony is pretty smart.

Oh yeah, no doubt about that!!!!

If people just wait a while then the prices will drop dramatically. I think it's bizarre to spend so much.

Well, yes and no. Yes, they are creating more demand, but the fact is that Sony is losing money on every unit they sell. They will of course make up for it in software sales.
Now, Nintendo on the other hand is doing something that is almost unheard of, they are selling their new system (the Wii) at almost half the price of the other systems, AND they are going to be making money on every unit they sell - go figure.

interesting...

They are camping out at our Best Buy too, lots of tents set up...and we have a BAD storm on the way!

I think those bidding on ebay are insane. We have a generation of people who need to have things first. "Instant gratification", no matter the cost, is the norm for everything it seems.

Oi! I know it is ridiculous how long people have been camped out already. My bf paid someone to stand on line to get reserve tickets for the PS3 and the Wii, so luckily he doesn't have to worry about getting one. Though...the prices that they are going for on ebay are insane. He should just resell it for disney vacation money LOL :teeth:

You are absolutely right...I have caught myself doing the same thing in the past...it's like we are being programmed...everything NOW !!!

Pros of being the first to have the newest whatever:
You are one of the first to have it.

cons of being the first to have the newest whatever:
-You have to do insane things like camp out for three days in a thunderstorm to get it
-You pay only the highest normal price if your lucky, or you sell your first two kids to pay the ebay price.
-You find out that the new whatever has many bugs that aren't worked out yet.
-You never learn the value of waiting to get what you want (can someone say "I have 5 credit cards maxed out"
-In a couple of months everybody else has this same whatever, without having to gone through the torture that you did to get it (and the bugs are now worked out)
-Next year you are camped out again repeating the same process for the next whatever because you still haven't learned your lesson.

This is so true.

We (Society) has created this madness.

When Gamecube came out, and then the Nintendo DS, I had no problem walking into Gamestop on no day in particular, and buying a presale. They had tons. I got one weeks after they started too. Those days are gone! :sad2:

Glad DS wants a 360 this year. That was easy to get, initial bugs worked out (hopefully!), and I even got a bonus giftcard with the thing. :) He will want the Wii, but not initially. He has learned a little patience, thankfully.

My son is dying to get the new Wii, but he knows that he needs to wait until the end of February for it, and he's fine with that. Tell you what, though, it sure is hard to teach a child to wait for anything nowadays

*Shrugs*

Same thing happened with the Sega Genesis all those years ago.

We are hoping to buy one on Friday!

Seriously? I hope you plan on camping overnight, or bidding for one on Ebay.

I'm not trying to be rude, but there is NO WAY anyone will be able to just stroll into a store on Friday and pick one up
