Providing alcohol at Dp

Hi everyone I was reading Carrie’s book and it talks about being allowed to bring in your own alcohol for receptions/dessert parties. I’m surprised that Disney would allow this and wondered if anyone had done it. I would think that they probably don’t mention it and even frown upon it if it is brought up. My Mom and I have figured that it might be worth it to bring our own beers but not wine due to the high bottle charge they apply on each one.

My family is planning on driving down to Florida anyway so it wouldn’t be a big deal to buy some at Costco or something and take them with us. The only thing is how do you serve them cold at the event? I’m sure Disney won’t allow you to use their coolers. Can you bring softdrinks as well?

Thoughts? Advice?

Providing your own alcohol is quite common at most wedding venues, and the reason Disney doesn't frown on it is that they can levy hefty corkage fees and service charges if you do it. ;) You don't have to worry about cooling or serving the beverages on your own—you just give them to Disney before the event and they take care of it. That's what the fees are for. :thumbsup2

Sure! I don't think many people BYOB for Disney weddings, cuz of the fees, the getting charged for anything opened, etc. It seems like it would only really work if you had a specific drink that Disney either couldn't provide or charged waaaaaaay more for than you'd pay elsewhere.

Could you share the fees involved with bringing your own wine? We're planning and anniversary celebration in 2012 and we will have wine and beer drinkers. I've gone over the costs to do this so much per person or per drink and I'm having trouble with costs because about half the people will not be drinking alcohol. Those that do drink will definitely be hefty drinkers, so if
Disney allows us to brink our own, that may be the way to go.
TIA

Also curious about this.
Since we were going to be having such an early brunch recpetion, I wanted another way to bring alcohol into it. Is it more of a BYOB at a DP, or can you pay for a hosted bar?

For our 40th Anniversary Celebration we are having appetizers and drinks at UK Lochside Terrace(very happy with that).
Do you know what the corkage fees and services charges are? We will be having wine (1 red, 1 white) and beer. We (as do most of our wine drinking guests) have definite preferences in wine.
For non-drinkers I think I would be able to do a soda and water per person charge...just not sure if we can combine the two.

As of now I've asked our coordinator to go with the premium wine & beer, plus sodas and waters at the 'per person' price because I really think with the premium wines the price per glass could get out of hand. This is for a private event through catering if that makes a difference.

One other question, the catering is done with a price for 1 hour, then additional for extra time (which they don't publish). For those that have done an Illuminations cocktail/appetizer event, do you think 1 hour is enough time? I'm leaning towards 1 1/2 hours followed by Illuminations.
Any help is appreciated.

Sorry I didn't see this sooner!

You can pay for a bar if you want one. Sometimes people skip the bar if they only have a few guests who drink, and those people duck out and buy a drink somewhere in World Showcase to bring back in with them.

There is a taxable corkage fee of 50 cents per bottle or can for beer, soft drinks, and water and $20 per bottle for liquor and wine. Liquor also incurs a $2.50 per drink charge to cover mixers, ice, and garnishes. While the corkage fee applies to all beverages brought to the event, Disney assesses a 21% service charge only on beverages opened at the event. The charge is calculated based on Disney’s retail price for each beverage.

You can combine them.

For a dessert party, 1 hour of food service is plenty, even if the actual party lasts longer. I dunno if you'd feel differently for appetizers, but the thing is, after the hour they stop putting out more food, but there's still whatever's leftover from before. I just went to an entire IllumiNations dinner, and I don't think food was actively being refreshed for more than an hour but we still had plenty... Then again, there was a sort of cocktail hour at the beginning too, so maybe that's different.

Lurkyloo, thanks so much, your information is extremely helpful. Although I'm working with an event coordinator, she doesn't seem to be terribly knowledgeable about what can and can't be done.
