DD has been struggling with 7th grade. Her grades have been low because she doesn't turn in homework (most of the time). It's either forgotten at school or not turned in if it was done. She's been dropped to the 2nd lowest level in the grade - a class of "disruptive" students who only encourage her bad habits, IMO - because of her grades. Even though she can test well, the HW, or lack thereof, pulls her grades down. She simply doesn't apply herself. We weren't happy after 2nd quarter grades came home. More of the same problems as 1st quarter - wasting time in class (talking), not turning in assignments, yadda yadda yadda. Her Reading grade first marking period was an F, the teacher gave her the D.
She's been driving us crazy like this since First Grade, some things never change.
Today, third quarter report cards came in the mail. I could hear her pride when she called me at work with the results. She has mostly B's this term (instead of C's), and all but one grade is an improvement or the same as last quarter. She still had a D, in Science, but thinks it was due to not doing well on tests this term. Sometimes, especially Science and Social Studies, it depends on the subject matter and how easily she learns the material.
I'm very happy for her - Now, if she can stay on course through the end of the year and work her way up a level (or two), maybe 8th Grade she could be in a class with peers who have better study habits that might encourage her to try harder.
