My FIL decided today that he wants to go to WDW next year for MNSSHP. The problem is that we have already made plans to go in Nov or Dec with my side the family and our kids can only miss 5 vacation days a year from school. So we are considering going Thanksgiving week so they will miss only 2 days, afterthen taking a long weekend in October. But I am concerned about the crowds over Thanksgiving. Can anyone give me approx wait times? Also, does Publix offer the prepared Thanksgiving meals? Tell me all of the good and bad things about Thanksgiving, please.

Con: It's one of the busiest weeks of the year...i.e. long lines, everything is packed. Pro: Parks are open late, and the parks are decorated for the holidays.:earsboy:

Last year my family and I went November 25th-28th last year for the exact reason...not to miss school...

yet surprisingly WE LOVED IT!!! every moment of the trip!

Pro's:

1.)Parks open late

2.)you could get tix for Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party and get FREE HOT CHOCOLATE!! & get to ride the rides with almost NO LINES all night long!:hyper:

3.)It is not as hot as it usually is in Florida i.e. temeratures dropped down into the high 50's at night so no worries for any crazy sunburns or heat exhaustion:sunny: (bring a hoodie!)

4.) If you were to fly down on thanksgiving day, you will see that airfares are incredibly low! We flew on Trans Meridian Airlines DIRECT flight into orlando-sanford...the food was splendid and the flight attendants were all smiles:D

Con's:

1.)It was VERY difficult to find ANY Turkey on the WDW premises, they only had it at the resort and you needed a reservation...luckily we got in at our resort and for $20($10 for 12-under) we had quite the Disney Thanksgiving Dinner:earsboy:

2.)Crowds...yes there is quite a bit extra people in the parks the days leading up to thanksgiving, BUT on turkey day and the days following there was an obvious decline in the amount of people at WDW i.e. watching the rush of people check out of there hotel rooms as we awoke the day after thanksgiving...LINES FOR TAXIS instead of rides:p et cetera

hope this will help ya out!:teeth:

We usually go the day after Thanksgiving and really enjoy ourselves. I think the crowds aren't too bad.

This last year we went the day before thanksgiving and had made PS for Garden Grill for thanksgiving day. We had a really nice dinner that did include turkey, plus flank steak and fish. Sides included mashed potatoes, stuffing and vegetables, plus the was a salad to start and Cinnamon apple crisp as dessert.

We also do the first party for MVMCP and really enjoy that. This will be the first year that we are not going during that time, because we are going in October instead.

I think you would enjoy it. One of the best parts is that the resorts and parks are already decorated for Christmas and everything is beautiful. Plus this year they are bringing back the Osbourne Family Light Spectacular at MGM Studios.

"Crowded" is a relative term. We usually go at Easter, but went during Thanksgiving last year-we thought it was very doable. Also, there are many places that serve turkey-they even had Turkey at Boma!
