pros/cons of Coronado Springs???

Stayed there two weeks in 2009. The pool was really nice and big the hot tub was large as well. The pepper market was a good place to get food. The walk to the front area was about 5 min so not too bad. Overall a nice place, just kind of misses the Disney feel that you get at the other mods.

Conventions are the con. They have many many meeting rooms thus it can be crowded. And if you get a room by the convention center you could end up with loud rowdy folks late into the night.

Love the Pepper Market.

If you have to ship anything down to avoid luggage charges there is an additional resort fee of $10 for your package because all package go through the business center at a resort that has a convention center. The business center is not operated by Disney thus the $10 fee.

I've never been at CSR when there was a convention, so I can't tell you what that would be like, but I love the resort regardless. My favorite moderate!

thanks everyone!!! I appreciate the responses ... may stay where I am and see about switching from the royal guest room to something else. just worried its going to be too girly for my 2 boys...

Pros:
Great pool area
Pepper Market
Spacious rooms with queen beds
Fabulous, efficient bus service
Beautiful grounds
Value for the price

Cons:
Didn't feel as "Disney" as other places we have stayed
Conventions (if you happen to hit a big one...none when we were there)
Spread out, but this can be OK, depending on where your room is (recommend Casitas 5 or Cabanas 8, depending on your preference for aesthetics)

I am in the middle of the same internal debate! POR vs CSR. Here are a couple things I am considering:

Pro: Longest waterslide of all the Disney resorts
Pro: Pepper Market is supposed to be really good QS meals
Pro: Sliding wood doors separating bathroom Vanity (vs curtain at POR)

Con: Pool bar closes at 6pm (although they have another outdoor lounge overlooking the lake that is open late- just nothing there for the kids to do there)
Con: Preferred rooms are closer to Peppermarket, yet FAR from Dig Site Pool. And if you go to a section close to the pool, you are now far from the Peppermarket.

I'll be watching this thread!

I have lurked around here for a long, long time, but had to respond to this thread. I stayed in Coronado Springs a few years ago, and loved it. We have also stayed at Wilderness Lodge (loved it, but stayed on a conference rate!), and French Quarter (also a lovely resort). Well, we just returned from a trip and this time chose Port Orleans Riverside as trying new resorts is fun. I went back and forth between CSR and POR for weeks, and finally decided to go with the trying something new thing. Big mistake -- at least for us. POR was soooo crowded, tons and tons of little kids (mine are teenagers), and the transportation was the worst we have ever experienced. Literally every time we left a park, no matter what time of day, POR had a long line at the buses while other resorts (especially CSR, boo-hoo) had no lines at all. We stood on almost every bus ride over the 5-day trip. Never had that happen at CSR. The POR food court was a madhouse in the mornings, just total chaos. I was so disappointed we didn't go with CSR as our stay there was so lovely and peaceful, though it was about 4 years ago. The transportation there was great. The Pepper Market was busy, but nothing like at POR and they find a table for you at CSR which is so nice. And at CSR, when you're walking around, no matter where you are, the view is just beautiful across that lake. You really feel like you're somewhere special. At POR, the river is lovely, but you only see it if you are walking right next to it. Having stayed at 4 resorts now, I really find CSR to be a true gem in the moderate level. I found no issue with conference participants at all, never even noticed them. Just my two cents.

I agree, your boys will probably not love the royal rooms. Alligator Bayou would be more appealing to them. But, they would also love the slide and pool at CSR.

There is a dedicated website for CSR that will tell you if any big conventions are going on there during your dates. Google buzz coronado springs resort website. I found lots of useful info there.

I started a similar thread about a month ago and decided to switch from POR to CSR. Mostly, because we just wanted to try it out and we had already been to POR.

We'll find out in a few weeks if that was a good idea...a few things that people mentioned in their responses that helped my decision...the pool slide at CSR is longer; CSR only has one sink, but they have sliding doors in the vanity area, making it a bit more private; very large hot tub at CSR; volleyball court at CSR, duvet covers on beds at CSR, a "deluxe" feel to the resort, fitness center and spa at CSR.

Many people say POR is their fav resort, but many people say CSR is their fav. I'm curious what we'll be saying next month once we try out CSR!

One more thing that is a Pro at CSR- they have central cooling- not one of those noisy wall units. I learned this on Buzz site.

Does anyone know if the same is true for POR?

As others have said, the main pool is very nice and they also have the largest hot tub on WDW property.

We didnt find the conventions to be a problem at CSR. A few times we got back from the parks and saw signs about event parking. They had CM out directing cars where to park. If it wasnt for that we would never have known anything was going on. We never encountered crowds st the resort or saw or heard any rowdy people. We had a preferred room so we were very close to the convention center too.

Ok .. I went ahead and called and changed -- moved from PO to a preferred room at CS .. Think my kids will like the pool - plus since they are a little older, didnt want the princess vibe :)

I appreciate all the responses! Love the disboards!! Always excellant amswers :)

CR, GF, YC/BC, BW are all convention resorts besides CSR and there have been conventions at each of them during our stays. None have presented a problem.

OP, there are no cons to CSR. It has beautiful landscaping, gorgeous rooms, the best food court at Disney, and top notch CMs. Some are turned off because they say it's large but it really is not that bad. If you're in Tahiti at the Poly, you have a trek to the Ceremonial house too.

Thought of a con-you can't walk to a theme park. You also can't walk to a theme park from WL, or AKL.

We have been to CBR and CSR. We preferred our stay at CSR. my kids loved the pool

My husband and I loved the steak and baked potato meal we got at the Pepper Market for counter service credit

We've stayed at CSR several times and I agree with the other poster's comments. Love the landscaping (theming), main pool/hot tub really nice, Casitas section has a wonderful large pool, and Pepper Market is enjoyable. Although the resort is large, it is fun to explore.

Only cons are that if you are located in a more remote location it is a bit of a hassle to get a quick bite to eat or drink or if you need something quickly from the gift shop. But, I wouldn't let this issue stop me from staying again. The other con I noticed this past visit (January) that Cafe Rix is extremely crowded at peak times. It is a small area that serves, coffee (made to order and the refillable mugs) quick hot breakfast items and pastries. The solution, of course, would be to stop in at non-peak hours if possible.

I think the resort is good for all ages but older kids may like the theme because it feels more grown up than some of the over the top themed values. Overall, CSR is a great moderate resort and I wouldn't hesitate to stay again.

I really don't think of the conventions as "cons." To me it meant less people at the pool during the day, the buses were empty and I didn't feel that the resort is as spread out and difficult to navigate as most people. I'm leaving tomorrow for another stay at CSR, and am staying in one of the new business class rooms.

We just returned from our second stay at CSR and loved it. Our first stay was in Ranchos and I had hoped to be in Cabanas this go around, but we were in Ranchos again, but 7B, which had a quiet pool right there, was close to dig site and right next to a bus stop. We loved it! The walk to Pepper Market doesn't bother us - it's not that far, and it's such a pretty walk. There were conventions going on during our stay, but bus lines were nonexistent and the pool was never super crowded. The last night we stayed was the Princess half marathon expo, which made coming/going from the resort pretty messy, but around the grounds, it didn't seem any more crowded. Our kids (10 and 12) loved the pool and the slide.
