Pros & Cons of an Owner's Locker...

I've been a DVC member for over 15 years and I've heard of Owner's Lockers but never really thought about getting one since I didn't really see the value.

However, I'm starting to open up to the idea since I want to start packing less when I fly. What are some pros & cons to the lockers? What are the main items you store in your locket that pushed you to get one?

I appreciate any input :)

The biggest con to the OL is the cost, but depending on how many trips you make each year, that might not be a problem.

That said, we love our OL. We keep a lot of miscellaneous things in it that take up a lot of room in luggage, like a throw blanket for sitting on the couch reading, or that we don't want to have to remember to pack each time, like OTC meds, coffee filters, and Disney hats and visors we don't wear at home. We also keep full size toiletries like shower soap and shampoo and a supply of our preferred laundry and dishwasher detergents. The OL website makes it easy to keep an inventory of everything we have in there, so when we make our grocery stop on our way to the resort, we already know whether we need to replenish anything.

For us the OL means one less suitcase we have to lug on the plane or load/unload into the car when we drive. We also especially like that they'll deliver to many other timeshare resorts and hotels (although not to the Universal Orlando Resort hotels), because we stay offsite when we're out of DVC points.

I'm sure you'll get input from many other owners who have OL. The convenience can't be beat, especially when it allows you to fly in with nothing more than a small carryon!

The only con, other than the cost, is that you tend to accumulate stuff longer than you really need to. We've kept popcorn buckets for use at the pool/sandy play areas, random little toys that are probably outgrown, etc. We have 2 misting fans that we use once a year, maybe. I really should clean that thing out.

Things it's really used for:
adult pajamas
adult clothes - Disney dresses, some park bags, etc
ponchos
sugar, coffee, etc
larger size sunscreen
water bottles

I just received a text that ours made it back to the warehouse. (We left disney early this morning.)

We're new DVC owners, but at times have been to Disney 4/5 times a year. The deciding factor for us was the increase in baggage fees. We took a suitcase of items down this past Sunday and it was $48 one-way. We can otherwise make it work with just a backpack by using the OL.
In it we put:
Toiletries
Cooking Supplies
First Aid Supplies
Blanket
Small Blender
Electric Skillet
Pool Shoes & Sandals
Laundry Supplies
Pool Bag

We had a ton of room left in the tote and I'm sure we'll add to it as time goes on.
(I'd like real silverware, my husband could care less. He thinks we need a "utility" tool.. lol)

We have one that holds first aid items, toiletries, a fan, swim stuff, laundry items, hats, gloves, scarves, etc. We have decided to order another one and fill it with clothes for each of us. That way we can travel as light as we want in the future.

I'm actually a Delta Sky Miles Platinum Medallion member (not a flex, just have to travel a lot for work), and get free checked bags for like 9 people, and we STILL love our OL.

We keep the usual toiletries/medicines, but where it really shines is making DVC truly feel like home. We tend to go on seasonal extremes — dead of summer or Christmas, so in addition to sandals and sun protection, bathing suits, coverups, husband’s shaving kit, hair tools, neck fans, baseball caps, we also have Christmas light-up necklaces, ears, hand warmers, light gloves, and then our big insulated poolside cups to hold adult beverages, leftover spirits, a few key spices, popcorn kernels, real maple syrup, Bisquick, microwave popcorn popper, Uno cards, a few soft throw blankets for watching TV, and soon our LL Bean flannel sheets, boxed pasta, Mac and cheese boxes — simple staples to whip up something if we arrive late at night. We also have various device chargers.

We use Drizly and have alcohol delivered, small groceries delivered, and really are enjoying finally slowing down a little and relaxing in the room. Last trip my son and I were just exhausted and cuddled in bed bingeing “Wednesday“ under our fuzzy blanket while my husband and daughter hit the parks. I’m always cold in the AC and crappy flat sheet in the room.

Another big family trip in a 2-bedroom the kids pig piled in the Murphy bed and the adults took the chairs at night and watched “Jungle Cruise,” made popcorn, enjoyed adult beverages. We bring the creature comforts, and as the mom, aKa brain trust for the family, I love knowing whatever I need is already packed down there.

Same. We get free luggage with Delta but I really don't like lugging around a bunch of luggage. Hence why I'm finally looking into OL.

I love all the ideas of what everyone puts in theirs and I've started making a list :)

Yup, while we will probably never pare down to just carry-ons, I DO stick with a smaller medium sized checked bag (so I don't have to lug it around the airport) and a backpack.

We have used Owner's Locker for 6+ years now and have 2 Lockers. The service is great. We find them very useful to keep toiletries, first aid supplies, ponchos, etc. We typically go to WDW 2 to 3 times a year but for us the convenience outweighs the cost.

My owner's locker is at my brothers house in Orlando! 🤣 It's actually two of the huge reusable Disney shopping totes. I will never tell him this exists or he may decide to start charging! I keep an inflatable mattress & sheets for it (just in case), a fuzzy blanket, a clothes steamer, hairdryer (Disney's are awful), Loungefly (don't use it at home), toiletries, OTC meds, mister fans - stuff I like having but would not want to take every trip. I'm an overpacker, so I still lug a full size suitcase and a carry on every trip!

If they had OL in Vegas, I'd have one there too. Best $100 I spent.
Ditto for Hawaii. There are so many things we'd only dream of using there. If we didn't have to bring those things, we could probably travel without any kind of suitcase at all. As it is, the last time we checked a bag was about 12 years ago, because I brought some Olive Salad back from New Orleans's Central Grocery for my brother-in-law.

I was on the fence about the OL but the suggestion of putting a blanket in it sold me! I also have about a thousand Disney coffee mugs and thought it might be nice to keep a few in my OL to use when I’m in WDW. Does anyone have a suggestion for storing fragile things in the OL?

I wrap them in T shirts and the 1-2 outfits I leave in there - it works as padding and lets me check my bag and not have the carry on

Just signed up last week. As someone who over prepares for everything, I'm looking forward to not worrying about toiletries and all the OTC medications I always pack! We will also put in a half dozen ears, a tabletop LED Christmas tree for the holidays, umbrellas, a small game/cards, and a bottle of rum.

The OL comes with a set of interlocking dividers (about 1/3-1/4 the height of the box) that can be configured to create compartments of various sizes, so we keep our mugs and other fragile items, not to mention liquids that need to be kept upright, nestled down in those compartments and padded with other items. The OL also comes with a flat plastic box sort of like a tackle box, with compartments that are perfect for small things like ink pens, hair ties, etc. We fold our blanket on top, which further holds everything in place. As someone else has said, it’s like Tetris! But we make it all fit - and thank goodness the top is constructed to stay on securely!
