I am sure this subject has been discussed at some point, but I was just wondering what are the advantages and disadvantages of adding on at the same resort where we would have existing points. (Primarily I am talking about $$.) Of course I know about the 7/11 month advantage-but what other than that?

Have 175 a BW, 50 at WL and 75 at Vero. I am not sure if we should add on at another resort or at one where we have points already?

Adding on at the same resort makes it easier to track and manage your points. IMHO, there is a smaller chance that any will expire, or be lost due to "administrative" reasons if all your points are from the same resort.

With small add-ons at multiple resorts, you will either be taking several short weekday trips, moving between resorts on your vacation or doing banking and borrowing on a regular basis (for 11 month advantage). Of course, that assumes you travel when the 11 month advantage is required to assure a reservation. If you travel when it is not, then I wonder why someone would want to take on the extra work of tracking points for multiple resorts. At 7 months, a point is a point is a point - EXCEPT when it comes to paying dues! :teeth:

I think the best reason is to have enough points at the same resort to make your ressies at the 11 month window (or before the 7 month window).

I see you have a few small contracts. Having a small contract may mean the you can only reserve a room for a couple nights, depending on your plans.

I personally like being able to make my ressie for my 7 night stay in the room I want at the 11 month window (or as soon as I confirm my plans). I don't like to waitlist or move resorts. That's just not what I like to do.

I agree with CarolMN, for a small add-on I would go with an add on at one of your current homes. I don't think it is worth the hassles to do a 50 pt add-on at a different resort....bookeeping,banking, borowing, changing resots, etc.
We have our pts at OKW+VB, same amount at each(300) and same use yr(Sept)........it makes keeping track easier.;)

I think a lot may also depend on when you generally make your reservation. If you are a last minute type planner (7 months or less) then it really doesn't matter what resort your points are at as long as you can keep track of them. If you plan way in advance, don't like to change resorts in the middle of a trip, then having the points at one resort is the best. Nothing worse than being able to make only part of your reservation at 11 months out and then having to wait in hope for 4 months that you can finish it at the same resort.

I would say primarily it makes keeping track of stuff easier if they are at the same place. We have 2 contracts, both at OKW, with use years one month apart because we felt that it would make the "bookkeeping" part easier.

We also have two contracts at OKW. Started with 230 and added 150 later. We wanted to have enough points available at one resort to reserve a whole GV ressie at the 11 month window.

I own at all 7 DVC resorts, and have no problem whatsoever managing the points. I've owned for 10 years, and have yet to lose a single point. I usually end up banking a few points at some resorts each year, and borrowing a few at some others. No big deal. I like to do HH or VB before or after a WDW trip, and by owning at them all, I can make all my ressies at the 11 month window. I also can reserve at one WDW resort, then head down to Sanibel or over to Clearwater for awhile, then return to WDW and stay at a different resort. And make all my ressies at the same time.

I own at two resorts and I see no problems.I have mine on the same user month so they are never off.
