PROS and CONS of Ft. Wilderness

We are thinking about going to Ft. Wilderness and stay at the cabins in July. What are your thoughts on this area. We will have a car, but do not want to drive to the parks all the time, I have heard that the bus transportation can be difficult. Thanks for your help.

We stayed in the cabins feb.05. I liked the full kitchen, the feel that you are really in a cabin the forest, and the separate bedroom to put the kiddies to bed early. The transportation for us was fine. We didn't rent the golf cart or a car, but we are not "commando" style park goers. We are the "enjoy the journey" type of happy-go-lucky folks.
My only complaint would be the pool area. For a WDW resort, it is just a pool. No hot tub, no pool bar, no fun slide. To balance that though, was the outdoor movies, the marina, the jogging trail, and the boat ride to MK.
We would totally stay at the cabins again if the deal was good.

Our first 2 visits to wdw, we stayed at the cabins. We loved them!! Here are a few reasons why.

1) You are going in July, after a long hot day in the parks, I felt the cabins were cooler and peaceful.
2) you can watch the electrical water parade every night on the beach.
3) the kids got their own bedroom, it was nice to be able to relax and watch a little tube while the kids slept.
4) Since we had a full kitchen, we picked up snacks and water bottles at the trading post. I froze the water bottles over night and had nice cold water in the parks.
5) Porch/deck. We loved the porch. I usually started my day with a cup of coffee and coffee cake (lots of goodies at the trading post.), before the mad rush began.

Lastly, there was/is a lot for kids to do at the cabins. Nightly campfires, hoopdee doo, bike riding etc.

You'll really enjoy.

We love FW! Even though we had our own vehicle, we did use the bus system a few times. Although it is a little longer to get around, it isn't too inconvenient. The only time you might not be happy with it is if you choose to leave a park at closing with everyone else. Then you will notice the inconvenience if you have to wait a little longer for a bus due to volumes. Disney is usually quite good at keeping track of wait times and rider volumes and will call more buses in to keep up. Plan a little bit to make sure you give yourself enough travel time, and use the time on the buses on the way out to decide what to see and where you'll go first, and on the way back to chill out, talk about the day, and let the Disney drivers worry about traffic etc. We actually used the boat to MK more often, hopped on the monorail to Epcot from MK etc. It was all part of the magic for us.

There are so many great things about FW that you need to allow time to discover! The theming throughout, trading posts, pony rides, Trail's End, HDDR, horse barn, campfire, sing a long, Chip n Dale......

Thank you everyone for your tips and comments, we will be leaving next week! Looking forward to this vacation a lot and then in August we will be going away again this time to visit family!
