Pros and Cons of Disney busses for transportation??

We always fly and use the transportation system. The only time we've had problems was when staying at POR we took the boat to DTD, then it stormed and we had to take the bus back. That was the nightmare bus trip....it took over an hour because of the storm.

We LOVE Disney transportation!!! We don't have to worry about paying attention to road signs, looking at maps, getting lost, driving back to the hotel late at night when we're tired, etc. We can just sit back and relax while on our way to and from the parks. And it's very easy to tell which bus to get on. The buses have the panels that light up with the bus's destination. Very nice! This is one of the main reasons why my DH love staying at a Disney resort. :teeth:

We drive all the time and still take the busses. I love being able to park the car and then never having to sit in it again until it's time to leave. We stay at POR and have never really had much problem with the busses there. I'd much rather take the busses than drive to the parks everyday. With the busses, it's much easier to leave for a mid day break if you want(we rarely do this but I like that freedom), and it's just much less hassle. The busses to MK drop you off right up front so you dont have to worry about taking the monorail or ferry to get there after you've already driven and taken the tram to the TTC. Just because we have our car at WDW doesn't mean we're going to use it while we're there. I definitely recommend the busses. The pros far outweigh the cons.

We do both. We discovered that driving to AK can really save you time. We would not want to drive to MK since you have to park at TTC, and then wait for the monorail or boat. We like to stay in the Boardwalk area, so we generally walk to Epcot and take the boat to MGM.

The bus is where you meet the people. Part of the fun of Disney is the quests from all over the world. We have met some great people at Disney over the years in fact we're having dinner in Sept with a couple we met in 2001.

I don't care to spend my vacation waiting for or riding on a bus. We always rent a car, but also, since we stay at a monorail resort, we really only drive to MGM and Epcot--also any off property trips like to Seaworld, etc. We prefer to drive our own car (well, it's a rental since we fly)

I always wondered if all of the folks who think busses are so convenient ever use public transport in their hometowns? ;) I think if you are used to that kind of transport at home, you will be fine with the bus system. If not, and you are used to driving yourself whereever you want to go when you want to go, then rent a car.

We drive down and then always stay onsite so that we can use the buses. It's just so much better after a tiring day at MK with two tired children to walk out, get on the bus, and go to your hotel instead of having to take the monorail or ferry to the TTC and then a tram out to your car and then drive yourself back to the hotel. It's nice to let someone else do the driving for a change. We also like staying at the Port Orleans resorts because you can take a boat to DTD which we always do unless it's raining. The boat ride is a fun way to get somewhere. We never use our car once we're there unless we decide to go off property. We also have never had to wait long for a bus either at the resort or at the park. Sometimes we have had to stand on the bus on the way back to the resort if we stayed until park closing but it's better than getting in a hot car and having to drive ourselves. We drive ourselves everywhere in our daily lives. It's nice to take a vacation from it while we're on vacation. :)

For me parking the car and not using it during my stay at a Disney resort is part of the attraction. (Since I live only a four or five hour drive from WDW, I always have a car at Disney, but give it a break when I get there.)

The Disney transportation system has always worked well for me, especially when traveling solo, as I often do these days.

The busses, boats and monorails are well maintained, and I always enjoy people watching while using them.

Enjoy.

I'm in favor of using the Disney Transportation system to its fullest. I'm on vacation and don't want to bother with driving. I'm really good with directions and how to get to and from someplace, but at Disney I'd rather not even think about driving from resort to park and back. I don't want to deal with the parking and all that. I don't mind standing while on the bus (Its no worse than riding the green line in Boston during heavy commuter times). I like meeting other people while on the busses. The busses drop you off only a short walk from the enterances and also right at the hotel enterance.

I find it very very convenient. As for waiting, we've waited upwards of 15 minutes and also met the bus right as it arrived. The worst is evening EMH, but they usually have 2 busses show up at once or within 1 or 2 minutes.
