I'm planning on proposing to my GF in Sept just before Wishes at MK. She doesn't know I'm making plans to do so (she's very eager to get engaged ... we'll be together for three years come 9/15). She doesn't even know we're going to WDW. She thinks we're going on a historic site-seeing tour in Philadelphia (not really her idea of a fun vacation). I plan on taking her out for dinner the night before our flight and surprising her with the WDW trip. I know she'll be really excited and happy. She's been wanting to go to WDW for a while (will be our first time together).

It looks like a good spot to propose will be the bridge to Tomorrowland.

A question I have is how did others get their engagement rings to FL safely and without her noticing? I could pack it in checked luggage but I'm afraid it may get stolen (or what if the luggage gets "lost"?) and hiding it in carry-ons doesn't sound like a good idea either since she's bound to notice (especially if security checks the bag).

It's an expensive ring and I wouldn't want to loose it in my travels. How did others get it to FL safely?

I made the trip plans just a couple of weeks ago (we're booked at the WL for 9/14-9/21) so getting ADR's and cruises has been next to impossible. But, I plan on surprising her with the trip, the proposal and I've made arrangements to have flowers, chocolates delivered to our room. My goal will be to surprise her with something small each day of our trip. I hope to propose the first night we're there so the rest of the trip will be truly magical ::MickeyMo ::MinnieMo :wizard:

First off, congratulations! That sounds so sweet :) In my opinion, putting it in your carry-on luggage would work fine. maybe disguise the ring box in a sock or something else that is bound to blend in! Good Luck with whatever you do!! :goodvibes

Congratulations!!!
Disney is a great place to pop the question. My fiance proposed on our trip in June during Wishes. I had no idea it was coming. He said that he kept the ring in its box in his carry-on bag. He said that one of his friends told him to do this as security will see it, know what it is and not open it. Don't know if this is true or not, but he didn't have a problem. After we arrived in our room he managed to sneak it out of the box and walked around with it in his pocket until our last night when he proposed. He said he kept putting his hand in his pocket to make sure it was still there, but I never noticed a thing.
I am sure that everything will work out perfectly after all you are going to be in the happiest place on earth. Good Luck and can't wait to hear the story when you get back.

My fiance put the ring in his wallet and packed the empty box. When we got to our hotel, he put the ring in the box and hid it. I never knew!!!

Don't give up on the Wishes cruises - DS tried for Illuminations cruises and nothing was available - there are only a few boats for those. His initial request for the Wishes cruise was also turned down - but the CM said to keep trying because they do have cancellations - when he called back he had two dates to choose from!!!!! There are a lot more boats available for the Wishes cruises!!!! Good luck!!!!

:) As for ring hiding tips, i placed the ring without it's box in a film canister in a zippered side pocket of a video camera bag. I put a quarter in the bottom to give it weight and to simulate the sound of a roll of film if she found the canister and held it. I wrapped the ring in tissue paper inside and taped the top shut with a note saying it was my mom's film since we were using her video camera. It worked great other than me checking the zipper every 15 seconds to make sure it was secured . Add the fact that I proposed on day 3 of the vacation meaning the ring had been on SM, RNR and BTMRR !

Another great place to propose (I did!) is at the California Grill just before wishes. You can get a great seat by the window and they dim lights and play the music inside the restaurant with a view over the Castle. You can read how i did it in the "Getting Engaged September 22nd" thread by another poster asking your same questions on the lower half of page one of this topic.

Good luck and congratulations!

If you are thinking about the bridge to Tomorrowland, take the time to walk down the path to the rose garden - it's more out of the way. Sounds like you have thought of everything. She's a lucky girl!

My DH wore it on a chain around his neck on the plane. He even bought a new t-shirt without a stretched out neck to hide it. I never knew. Then I believe it was in his wallet for a bit and then the safe that again i had no idea about.

Congratulations! Proposing in Disney is such a good idea. But I guess I am biased b/c I got engaged there last year. My Fiancee was nothing but nerves traveling with the ring. He held on to the ring the entire time we were in the airport, and flight. I don't think he wanted to take it out of his sight. He didn't want to risk the chance of security at the airport spot searching our bags and blowing the cover! He proposed the first day we got there so that I would be searching around and find it. Good Luck!

In my opinion anywhere is Disney is a great place to ask. But consider her personality....if she's more shy perhaps a less public proposal is best.

First off CONGRATS on taking the next step!! My FDH proposed to me on an illuminations cruise and we didn't even know we were going on one till 3 days before!! So keep trying! As for hiding the ring, the wrapped and in the wallet is a good idea or maybe even in sunglass cases or if you wear contacts in a contacts case. Good Luck and your plans sound GREAT!!

I will be doing the exact same thing in late september - I will be picking up ithe ring in about 3 weeks then have to manage to get it to WDW and keep it on me all day until wishes. I am still trying to figure out the best way to keep it hidden yet safe on me for about 12 hours... Seems like the bridge to Tomorrowland or the same general area is a pretty good place to pop the big question - she has no idea I am planning on asking her, but I know she is anxious to get married so it will be a great week and a half.

Congratulations! What a beautiful plan...so thoughtful and very romantic.

We travel all the time...I would only pack the ring in a carry on bag. NEVER pack it in checked luggage. If you don't have a carry on bag, definately get one. In your carry on bag, Pack a what I call my DH's "man bag" it is a zippered bag in which I pack his razors, shaving cream, colognes etc..There is usually a hidden zipper compartment in those bags. Put the ring in that zipered compartment inn the man bag and pack the man bag in your carry on. Security does not go thru bags, the x ray machines are more powerful now, so searching is rarely done, and if it is...they will not open a small zipered compartment in a small bag. This way the ring is well hidden and on your person.

First of all, good luck and Congratulations!
My fiance proposed to me in the rose garden right near the bridge to tomorrow land. As diznygirl said, it is a little more out of the way, and secluded. Plus, you have an amazing view of the castle, and there are a few benches there where we sat to call our families. My fiance packed the ring in his carry on. My advice would be to let her go through security first, as any gentleman would. That way if you get stopped and searched, she will already be through the gates and so excited to get on the plane. You will be able to whisper to the security guard what it is just in case. When we went, the woman in front of us had to dump out her entire carry-on in a tray. I didn't even notice, but my poor fiance was a wreck. He said he had visions of proposing in the airport after all that planning for the trip. Luckily, we got through with no problems. When we got to the room at AKL he put the ring in the safe in the room and didn't mention the code to me that he set. We went back to the room in the afternoon to freshen up, and he got it out while I wasn't paying attention.

Have a great time. I always say I had the most magical proposal. Fire works, a castle, a wonderful man, and a beautiful sparkly ring, what more could a girl want? :lovestruc

Congrats! I will be doing the same thing soon! (Havent booked but for various reasons, going to start my own thread, just did a topic search before i did so and found this.)

I was also wondering how to get it through airport security lol, since most likely we will have to fly. Some thoughts I had have already been mentioned, film canister (though both myself and my hopefully soon to be Fiance use digital!) seems to be the best! I have spent countless hours in school that just restarted figuring out how to do this, some of the other ideas i have thought of that havent been mentioned are false floors to your carry on bag, alot of them have a way you can open up the floor and put it within it. or heck if you dont mind some handy work cut a small strip get some velcrow from walmart to fasten the "pouch" and then put the ring in. if you wrapped the ring up you could put it within a toothbrush holder and just buy a Toothbrush while down there. or... if you wear a hat there are a couple ways to tape them (wrapped again) within the hat :) i think it would be harder if you need the box too... though putting it in a pair of folded socks may work pretty smoothly, especially if she doesn't dabble in your luggage.

Well I hope all goes well, good luck and god bless!

First of all congrats to you and your bride to be.

I just got back from WDW were I popped the question to my girlfriend. I put the ring in the box in a pouch on my carry on bag (I took a backpack). I then went to the bathroom after we got off the plane and put the box in a pocket (wore cargo shorts). Also I had it in a ziploc bag in case I got wet. I had no problem with it all day

my bf proposed on the bridge to tomorrow land... it was perfect - get there about a 1/2 to 45 minutes before the show, and you can be standing right there in front...

i also heard of a guy who proposed to his gf-now-wife at the top of splash mountain...
