Hello all!

I'm thinking about proposing to my gf on our upcoming trip in May. :lovestruc As a gay couple, how well do you think this would go over? If I tried to get help from the CM's, do you think they'd help? I want it to be a special and romantic proposal that she won't forget, but at the same time I'm hesitating because instead of the congratulations that most couples would get I fear that we'd just get strange looks and disapproving head shakes from passer-bys. I also have no idea how to go about it, or even where would be the best spot. I know there's a wedding board here at the DIS already, but I wanted to ask for your input over here because I figured you guys would be able to relate to what I'm feeling. Help!

You shouldn't have any worries! Gay folks walk around every day with "Just engaged" and "Just Married" buttons on, nobody bats an eye!

As far as the CM's go, they love to help plan these things.....

If you need any help planning please give me a shout via PM....

You shouldn't run into any problems at all!

And after she says yes, stop by Franck's Studio at the Wedding Pavillion and look at all the fabulous options for a Disney Wedding! :thumbsup2

CONGRATS!!!

You'll have no problem at WDW. In fact the CMs at the Californian Grill helped me propose to my DW by bring out her desert on a giant plate covered in one of those classic metal serving covers.

When they lifted the cover off, the words "Will you marry me?" written in chocolate around the plate's edge!

It was magical. :)

Thanks guys! :goodvibes

The desert idea sounds good, but I'd like to see what else I can come up with...or you...or we...

I'm really shy, so whatever happens I'm probably going to turn as red as a tomato, and probably start crying because I'm a total sap :flower3: My parents are coming with us on the trip and so far we've only got one day when we don't have any dining reservations. If I opt for the writing around the plate I'd have to come up with an excuse to book another reservation at a 'signature' restaurant just for the two of us...that is unless dinner at Hollywood's Brown Derby with my parents could be classified 'romantic'. It's also good to hear that people shouldn't make too much fuss over us being a same-sex couple...I know where I'm from people don't bat an eye, so I'm kind of used to not having to "censor" myself.

I can't remember if it was here on the gay boards or in the wedding area, but someone had pictures of the proposal all timed perfectly to coincide with the fireworks while on the Polynesian beach.

I thought it was spectacular.

That was an awesome video! There's no way I could pull that off though, far too public, lol.

I saw on youtube a video of a guy proposing to his boyfriend by the wishing well in MK, and I think I could pull that off...I like that it's in a relatively secluded area (compared to Main St. USA) and you can use the excuse "oh, lets go wish in the wishing well honey"...but I'll kind of feel bad for using someone else's idea without being able to give him direct credit or see if he minds me using his idea.

How about on the walkway from WDW to the Grand Floridian by the lake at night . Romantic and semi private or over by Narcoosees at GF. I willk applaude if i see you when it happens. We're down there all the time.

Best Wishes

So I think I found the ring today :cheer2: aand, I think I made up my mind about how I'm going to do it...I think the best way for me, so I don't cry like a baby and can speak, will be to do the desert thing. Only, instead of the desert coming out right away they'll bring the ring in a glass slipper with the words "will you merry me?" written around the edge of the platter. Now I just have to decide where to go for the dinner. I've heard the California Gill is a great spot for that, so I might try there. :dance3:

firstly CONGRATULATIONS - we had our honeymoon at Disney and are very low key about being a couple but never felt weird or looked at and all the CMs were really discreet when they congratulated us - which we really appreciated.

We found Narcoossees really romantic and went there on our last night. It seemed more intimate and you still got the view of the fireworks, and are right next to the lake. Also I loved the Lobster!!!

whichever way you do it we hope you have the most amazing time!!

One thing I'll suggest is that it's a good idea to pop to the restaurant earlier to make sure the details are sorted. You could do it by phone but I've had things screwed up before by relying on the phone.

Just make up an excuse to pop away. My excuse was that i was going to get my hair done at the hairdressers in MK, then I went over to the Cali Grill, popped into the hairdressers on the way back and got them to pixie dust me, which is a lot quicker than getting your hair cut.

Whatever you do, I hope it goes great!

I'd Be totally Pissed!

My 2 fave places at WDW right now are Citricos and Jiko -
Both great food - both romantic in different ways,
Good luck! :thumbsup2

Hahaha! :rotfl: We'd actually have desert, but the first thing that would be brought out is the ring...just so that she doesn't suspect something is up having a large platter and two other plates brought out at the same time.
