Ive been trying to plan a proposal at WDW but have run into many problems.

First off I emailed disney and they simply told me to call the grand floridian or wdw weddings. I first contacted the grand floridian and I was told that i should contact wdw weddings. I then called WDW weddings and was told they were to help in planning weddings. I am very confused and a little annoyed at being thrown around.

What to do next? I have reservations for qvr at V&A and am waiting to book grand 1 yacht if its even available. Should I just forget asking disney for help and just book the yacht and have a simple dinner then champaigne/proposal on the yacht? Or should I contact a 3rd party. However I really doubt a 3rd party company can really do any magic.

I have a garden view room booked. Should I change it to a concierge room if they will provide better help.

So What do you think? Right now I'm confused, and dare I say it ... angry.

In reply to your previous thread some of us had mentioned that Disney does not have an official department for helping with proposals. I'm sorry you had to find out the hard way. :sad2:

Once you get to WDW, individual cast members may be able to help you when you explain your situation. You often hear of the random Photopass photographer who helped a guy stage a proposal in front of the fireworks or the resort staffer who surprised the couple with free Champagne. But your mileage may vary...

I think the consensus on the other thread was that you don't need to pay for Concierge to get some "pixie dust" from cast members but that having dedicated Concierge service might make it more of a one-stop-shopping experience—i.e., they can arrange a cake for you onboard the yacht or contact the florist about sprinkling rose petals in your room, etc. These are all things you can do yourself, but it's the Concierge's job to do them for you.

Also, if you are within 180+10 days of arrival, you don't need to wait to book the Grand 1.

thx for all the help decdisneybride I pm'd you back.

In the other thread it was said I should contact the front desk, by which I had assumed ahead of time...

Because DFTW wants to bring engagements under its umbrella but doesn't have anyone on staff whose job it is to coordinate them.

Those "packages" are great starter ideas all compiled in one place with vague to no direction on how to actually do them yourself (giving you the phone number for the manager at Jellyrolls, telling you to contact the hotel concierge staff, etc.).

This one is particularly unhelpful:

An Intimate Engagement

Arrange for a proposal as unique as your relationship with a privately catered engagement event by your resort beach, pool, balcony or other various locations. A Disney Cast Member will assist in planning your magical proposal from sunrise to sunset.

Um... what Cast Member? How do I contact him or her? Which resorts participate?

Now I know from years of reading these boards that you can call Private Dining or Disney Catered Events and set up something like this, and I've even unearthed the phone number. But most people are not going to be able to guess these steps by reading that description.

On one hand, it's incredibly frustrating and annoying but when I was thinking about this with a very Pollyanna mind frame, I thought that for once, Disney isn't trying to squeeze every last dime out of their fans. I am guessing that at some point engagements are going to blossom into another full-grown division of DFTW, but for now, it's still for the very determined to figure out how to use the "packages" listed on the website.
