My son will be wearing a jacket for the 2 dress up nights. Will it be okay for him to wear nice shorts and a nicer shirt instead of long pants on most of the other nights? I know you see all kinds of dress, but I was wondering what everyone's opinion was and what you have done. thanks Beth

They request no shorts in the dining room....I dressed my almost 3 year old in dresses or capris for dinner then changed her to shorts right after.

He should be OK with nice shorts and a polo type shirt. You might want him in long pants for Lumiere's, it tends to be a little dressier. Shorts are OK for everyone on tropical night :)

I have a ten year old son and just got off the Magic yesterday. I had bought him two pairs of zip off pants/shorts and they worked very well for casual nights. We wore the pants to dinner and zipped off the bottoms as he was heading to the kids club. There were many, many people, even adults in shorts and tanks in the dining rooms. We were first sitting, and I think he would have been fine at our sitting in nice clothes (even shorts) if that what he is comfortable in. We also noticed a lot of people changed into casual clothes as soon as dinner was over. So he won't need too many dressy clothes, they are only in them for a couple of hours. Hope this helps!

I think it depends on the boy.

At 6, I put my son in pleated tan pants with a belt and a blue RL button down shirt.

My husband wore the same thing except with a tie and a navy sport jacket.

My son wanted to know where his tie and jacket were? They do not sell anything like that on the ship or at port.

Next year, on the Western Carribean Cruise, I had husband and son in tuxedo's for photos with Mickey and family portrait. My son loved it. That was our Christmas photo, Greg and Mickey in tuxedoes.

If your kids don't care, long pants and a polo shirt is fine for evenings. On formal night, throw on a sport jacket!

The dress code states no shorts in the dining rooms. The only exception is for Tropicali/Mexicali night. We rarely saw anyone in shorts and they looked out of place. If your son doesn't want to wear pants, you can always get him a burger, chicken strips or pizza by the pools or try the buffet at Topsiders.

Our son, 6 at the time, wore tan or navy slacks and tropical type shirts on casual/informal nights. For dressy the navy slacks with a nice botton up shirt worked fine with a clip on tie-he thought he looked pretty cool. He wanted a suit but we could not find one that fit our budjet for only 2 nights use. For our next cruise I am going to hit the second hand stores otherwise I will get him a sportcoat.
Your son will not be too warm with slacks in the dining room since it runs a bit chilly, he can change into shorts for the kids clubs after.

Ours wore khakis and collared shirts on casual nights. Suits on formal and semi-formal nights.

I bought my almost 3 year-old son an adorable suit consisting of a navy blazer, white dress shirt, tie, and khaki dress shorts. I thought this would be appropriate for Triton's on the 3-day cruise. DH and I wouldn't dream of wearing shorts to dinner, but is it really necessary to put a toddler in long pants?

Actually DCL specifically states that the dress code for those under age 13 is up to the parents...from the Dress Code thread at the top of the board:

FOR CHILDREN UNDER AGE 13

Are children expected to follow the same dress code as adults?
Each parent or guardian would be the best judge of what attire is appropriate for our youngest cruisers. Guests who are age 13 or older would probably be most comfortable wearing attire similar to what is recommended above for all the ship's passengers.

I will be cruising with my 5 year old nephew in November, and I will be dressing him in khaki shorts and polo shirts for dinners. As Long as he looks nice. On formal nights he will have a little suit.:)

I agree with DCL, it should be up to the parents on how to dress the child. Some kids don't want to wear anything but shorts and others like to wear long pants and ties. My son(6) will wear a tuxs for formal night, but for casual I will be lucky to get him in a pair of pants of any kind. He LOVES to wear shorts, but with a nice polo shirt or dress shirt I think he will be o:k. Joni :bounce: :bounce: :Pinkbounc
