When renting a car, what should I bring to show proof of insurance? Is the little card you put in your glove box enough or do I need a copy of my entire policy?

Thanks for your help!
:D

The card should be fine, but, just in case, bring the declairations(sp?) page of your policy, a photocopy will suffice.
Few ask for this, btw. The only one that comes to mind is L&M.

Thanks, Gail!

Even if they don't ask, I'd rather be safe than sorry! :D

I have never had to show proof of car insurance when renting a car. Up here in MA we do not get a "card".

One in-terminal agency (I forget whether it was Dollar or National) asked me for proof of insurance when I declined their coverages. This is the page that tells how many dollars of liability etc. you have.

Payless reserves the right to expect proof of insurance although they never asked me.

L&M states that they expect proof of insurance. Not stated by the complainants on this forum but this may have been the root of the complaint of being denied a car.

Many agencies expect non-citizens to buy collision coverage. (Usually Canadians are treated as U.S. citizens by rental agencies in the U.S.)

Find and check the policies or rules of the rental agency before booking on line. These policies can also be seen if you use Travelocity.com to shop priceses or book the rental. Some companies do not consider coverage by a credit card to be enough. (Careful: Travelocity sometimes rehashes the previous company's policies when you click for another company's policies.)
