When renting a car is it sufficent to bring a COPY of your insurance card? I would rather leave my card in my car at home.

Thanks!

Yes, absolutely, that is good enough.

If you want to be extra sure, bring a xerox of your declarations page of your policy. That will show your limits of liability, deductible, etc.

Yes,
In all the times I've rented, I've never been asked to show anything. I've always been prepared, however.

I brought a photocopy, asked if they wanted to see it and they said no! At least I had it just in case.

Due mainly to business travel, I have probably rented cars throughout the US several hundred times. I have never been asked for proof of insurance. However, we always have it with us simply because we are required to carry a proof of insurance card as a driver in Illinois. Just take the photocopy to be safe.

A small number of car rental companies, mostly small local or independent ones, require that you buy THEIR COLLISION if you don't have collision on your car back at home. I saw a few of them using Travelocity.com, the car companies shown there have a "policies" page where that is shown if applicable.

This is one example of what they might ask for your proof of insuarnce photocopy.

Since my car doesn't have collision (it is quite old) I passed up those companies and chose another.
