I just wanted this clarified by you guys. There is a debate going on in my family! Can someone please tell me the correct pronunciation of for Castaway Cay? Is it "Kay" or Key"? Thanks so much!! I think it's "kay" but I could be wrong....please tell me I'm not! I don't like being wrong :goodvibes. Just kidding about that!

I asked this last year! I always said "Castaway KEY" & "Parrot KAY" - I got varrying answers but I think most said both were "KEY"

It is pronounced "KEY" like what you lock a door with.

The definition is " a small, low island composed largely of coral or sand" and there are thousands of cays in the Carribean and around the world.

I'm sure it is mispronounced as "KAY" all the time and Disney castmembers hear that, but the proper pronunciation is "KEY". My 4th grader just read a book called "The Cay" last month in school so we had this discussion :lmao:

Remember Jimmy Buffet's singing about "the Florida Cays . . ."

Funny I went to AAA and they also pronounced it Cay, not Key. All I could think about was how she kept saying it wrong.

I wondered this myself as I have heard people say both "Kay" and "Key". It's so confusing being spelled "Cay" makes me want to say "Kay".
Glad this was cleared up before we cruise so I don't sound like a total noob now :)

I don't think it helps that "Castaway" rhymes with the "Kay" pronunciation - it rolls off the tongue a little easier. :)

I've read that both pronunciations are technically correct, but the Caribbean way of saying it is "key."

At least someone in Florida was smart when they named the "Florida Keys".....they didn't want people to pronounce it wrong! :thumbsup2

I used to always pronounce it cay but recently found out from my new DH that it is Key. I really prefer to say cay because I think it sounds better and flows better.
We recently went on the Dream and I listened closely to what others said when they pronounced it and most do say Key, most importantly all of the videos about the island you can watch on your TV in your cabin they pronounce it Key. Some CM's and guests were saying Cay and I really had to stop and think about it before I said the name

I still wish it was cay, :rotfl:.
