I know that this is very early, but I am a planner. My husband and I will be going to WDW in January of 2014. We have Annual Passes and Tables in Wonderland, so that whole "stay, play, dine" doesn't really help us out much. We are Disney Rewards Visa card members, so if they offer anything, that is always great. We took advantage of their room discounts earlier this year when booking our trip for this June.
Anyway, we were going to have my mother watch our daughter but have decided that it might be a nice treat for them to offer to bring them to Disney during part of our January trip. We would get my mother and daughter their own room at a value resort of their choosing. My husband and I will be paying for all of their travel, food, tickets, and hotel, but my mom will be in charge of any souvenirs that she might want. We are trying to crunch the numbers. We know we can't really count on Visa offering a room discount, but have crunched the numbers for the resort for the current prices (as posted on the WDW website) as well as the numbers if Visa were to offer the discount next January. My mom has said that she would like to take my daughter to eat at Akershus, Ohana (supper), 1900 Park Fare (breakfast), and Be Our Guest for lunch or supper. All the rest will be counter service meals. My daughter doesn't eat much and she and my mother could easily share some meals. That said, it still looks like free dining would be a better deal than a room-only savings offer.
We keep hearing that Disney is getting away from free dining and going to the "stay, play, dine" discounts. That works out well for my mom and daughter, but we know little about it. Anyone know about this? Anyone know if it is more likely that a different promo will be going on then?
