what kind of dress? How fancy? What size? I have two bridesmaid/prom dresses from my sister that my mother is giving away. Both are teal and I have pictures I can send you. And she lives in MA.

I usually go strapless, and tea length (anythign shorter looks weird) but I'm down for a longer dress, I usually get a 16 and get it altered and I dont care how fancy, in my dreams I imagine a BIG huge poofy tulle skirty ball gown but i know thats way out of the question so anything that fits and is pretty ill concider lol I usually wear black and white, so any other color would be a nice change haha

oh and, no bubble hems please, i look REDICULOUS in those lol

Ross has some really cute juniors dresses for $20, $30 and $40.

Look on ebay! and what is with the fur on the dresses in that first link in the post above me... FUR on a dress?? For real?? I'm so glad I'm not in HS anymore

How about Macy's? We're looking for a dress for DD14 for confirmation & have seen a lot of prom dresses. Macy's doesn't have a huge selection but not too bad prices for a few cute styles.

do you have a "cinderella's closet" around you? my mall has a "store" that sells used prom dresses for 10$, I've donated my dresses to them from both my proms and from when I was a bridesmaid...

LOL That is the same exact dress that I will be wearing in my cousin's wedding in November but in the Latte color! Darn, I didn't even think of looking for it on Ebay. :confused3

God, I wish this was sooner, I just sold a size 16 dress on ebay, a red bridesmaid dress, like this one... http://cgi.ebay.com/Davids-Bridal-A...yZ105529QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If you go to ebay you can find wonderful dresses at great deals. And if you fit into a 16 at JC Pennys or Macy's you may need a bit bigger at david's bridal. They run real small. I was a 14 but the 16 was what fit me.

maybe rent one?

costume places often have a nice selection of fancy dresses and the cost could be much lower than purchasing.

I got all my formal dresses in high school at department stores and never paid more than $80 for a dress. Now, that sounds like a lot and I have no idea what your budget is, but when most of the other girls were all wearing $200-300 dresses, it seemed like a pretty awesome deal (prom in Jersey = INSANE).

I started shopping early and looked through everything on the clearance racks in the Juniors section and the Evening Wear section. My dream dress for prom I ended up finding in one store for full price, which was way more than I was willing to pay, so I kept shopping. It turned out that the same dress was on sale at another department store in the same mall, and they had the petite size (I'm 5' 0", so I need it!), which saved me having to get the dress hemmed.

I also had friends who got great deals at Marshall's, Ross or TJ Maxx. Target also has cute dresses sometimes for reasonable prices, but you usually have to order them online without trying them on, which I have issues with.

Good luck and enjoy your senior year! Time starts passing very quickly after high school ends...

Let me look when I get home tonight and talk to my oldest. I think she has a size 16 teal floor length that is taking up closet room...you might need to get it pressed (she wore it 2 years ago to her jr prom) so it is fairly new. Trying to remember what the top was like...seems like it was built like a strapless but has a little something to help hold it up. Will post again tonight. ....old age...can't remember :rolleyes1

My dd bought a wedding dress at a secondhand shop and dyed it pale green. It turned out beautiful! It was a halter style with lots of netting underneath, we ended up removing most of the netting. She didn't worry about someone showing up with the same dress!

I just bought a dress from Nordstrom Rack for $40. Right now a lot of dresses are on sale at Macy's, JcPenney and Ross.

i have no idea what "Ross" is but im going out today after school to look at marshalls, tj maxx, and macys, jcpenney etc.

Once you find the dress, try Zappos.com for sales on shoes.

Or ebay.

Same thing with jewelry.

Good luck!!! I hope you find something you like!

Another idea...do you have friends who are one-year older? Maybe they have dresses to loan you or sell on the cheap?
