Prom Dress

I've competed in pageants, and I always got my dresses from a local pageant consignment shop. They all cost $120 or less! (that I got at least)
If it has any minor beading or thread imperfection, you can always get a much cheaper price.
pageantresale.com is good too
You'll likely get a pageant gown for the price of a prom dress ;)

I have seen nice prom-style dresses at Ross (http://www.rossstores.com/locator.aspx) for under $50. It all depends on the store, though, as far as what they might have. And they might be wrinkled from being crammed together, so you'd probably want to get it steamed before wearing.

You might also have luck on Craigslist or local consignment shops. You can call the consignment shops ahead of time...some specialize more in formal wear than others, so calling ahead might save you some time and gas. Good luck! :cool1:

I took DD16 Saturday and got her dress, we found it at a store called Kid City, they have a lot of formal wear but it's a lot less $$ then buying from Macy's or even Penny's. We got her a really nice dress for under $40.

We got DDs at Deb. Its not a store we would normally shop in, but they have a whole prom dress section with lots of nice ones!

I just went Prom shopping with my DD yesterday. (Visiting relatives in Houston. For spring break) Based on a suggestion on this board we did got look at Ross. There were several short dresses that would have worked for some girls bu my DD was too tall for that particular style. We found one Halter style dress that fit very well, but the color wasn't right for her. If we were on a very tight buget it definitely would have been worth driving around to the many Ross stores in the Houston area to look for a dress.

We ended up getting her dress at a place called Formal Gallery on the west side of Houston. It had a huge varity of dresses and prices. Some dresses were as low as $59. We spent $205 which included the dress, shoes, jewelry, alterations, and shipping. They do have a web site where you can order.

My daughter had a dance to go to for her last year of Middle School. I didnt want to spend a fortune on something she would wear once. I went to Goodwill to look for something else and found a Beutiful red prom dress for $6.00!! My girl friend had to shorten the straps a bit but it fit perfect. It was a Davids Bridal gown. sure dosent hurt to look in thrift stores

JCPenney's or try a consignment store. Most there have only been worn once or twice.

we went shopping last weekend. we went to Dillards(nice selections) Macys, JC penny and DEB store. DEB store had all kinds of dresses so did Dillards. I saw plenty I liked for under 200.00 but she liked the one from the bridal shop that cost 300.00:scared1:.I was tired by then I gave in. But it is a very pretty dress. And at least Im done.:cool1:Now makeup and hair

Too late now but we found DD's junior prom dress in a bridal store a few months ago for half price. They were clearing out last year's designs getting ready for this prom season. Got a $316 Tony Bowls dress for $158.

We went shopping Sunday - checked out a consignment store, an outlet store (Group USA - they had a TON) and a Russian boutique (which was a huge mistake on my part to walk in the door - of course she fell in love with a dress that was $389 :crazy2:) In the end, we got her dress at David's; it was $179 and perfect.
